The Levels are a unique and beautiful landscape of low-lying wetlands, rich in wildlife. meadows, edged by "rhynes", the local term for water courses, overhung by willow trees, interspersed with attractive villages, create a tranquil and timeless atmosphere. Gentle, quiet, undulating roads and byways make this perfect countryside for walking or cycling and anglers can enjoy some excellent coarse fishing from the banks of the many rivers. The wildlife includes deer, badger & the large variety of birdlife that the Somerset levels attract. Local industries include cider making and withy growing for basket industries, which you can learn all about at the nearby "Willow and Wetlands Visitor Centre".
