Amazing place on earth

Review Submitted: February 19, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2010
The Nook is a lovely cottage! It has a big kitchen equipped with everything you need (tip: get your shopping delivered from Tesco), nice, sunny, spacious bedrooms (you can see great sunsets from the top floor!), a cosy living room – all in all the perfect place to stay in the quiet and peaceful Silecroft village. I went on my own, accompanied by my dog – we got a very warm welcome from the housekeeper who found a ball for my dog to play with and showed us the way to the beach – a ten minutes walk along the ‘main’ road, which really felt like being somewhere else on earth. When we arrived at the beach I bought ice-cream from the ice cream van, sat down on a bench watching the sea – just a brilliant start into what I would call my best holiday in 2010. The beach is absolutely stunning when the tide is out, and offers great walks along the coast. On the other side of Silecroft you can climb up the Black Combe which has beautiful views. Another absolutely amazing walk is the ‘upper Eskdale path’, starting at Muncaster Castle. Easy to reach by train (stop: Ravenglass) – this is my favourite walk in the Lake District, with a magnificent scenery. All in all, I had a restful week full of sunshine, good sleeps in a comfortable bed, and can’t wait to stay in the Nook again! Highly recommended!

Silecroft

Review Submitted: March 17, 2010 Date of Stay: March 2009
We had a lovely break at this cottage, inspired on our return to change our kitchen door handles to copy the cosy cottage look!! The house was very comfortable, with a friendly family feel the log burning fire each evening.

Had some fantastic wind swept walks along the beach which blew all the stress of the city well away. It is wild and windy at the beach, come prepared for the wind not a sunny beach holiday and you can't go wrong.

This is a great place to escape to and a good outdoor family holiday cottage. The owners were friendly and approachable, property clean and warm. Bedding supplied clean with plenty of towels. Local pub closed for Easter and no shop in the village, so come with some provisions.

Perfect Little Getaway!

Review Submitted: March 16, 2010 Date of Stay: March 2009
I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to get away from it all for a short while. I went with 5 friends for a birthday celebration and we were all pleasantly suprised at how lovely the place was. The drive alone to the village takes you past some of the great scenery of the Lake District. The cottage itself has great character with its white washed walls, generous outdoor space and lovely surroundings. It was well maintained, It was perfect for a group of this size. We mainly cooked for ourselves (although there is a pub in the village and others in the surrounding area), the kitchen was big enough for us all to sit and eat together and we had no problem finding food in the local area (we even bought fresh eggs from the cottage a few doors down!). we spent most of our time walking the many routes that are on offer, we also headed down to the beach which was only short distance from the cottage. A further recomendation would be to head down to Millstones in neighbouring Bootle where you can rest after a long walk and enjoy some local grub whilst taking in the scenery that surrounds the restaurant and on the way out we picked up some fresh bread and cakes from the well known bakery there to take back with us. All in all a great experience!
