The lane leading to The Duckhouse at Praderies Bas peters out to a chemin rural (rural path) thereafter. Under the shade of a large walnut tree, with the sound of carp leaping on the 1,000 sq. metre pond nearby, it’s easy to forget that you’re only a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Le Buisson, a classic example of a small but active French community. Situated between Bergerac (nearest airport) and the 8th-century town of Sarlat, Le Buisson boasts reputedly the best swimming beach on the Dordogne River and 'Les Grottes de Maxange' - the caves of the stars. On the main rail line from Bergerac towards Sarlat, Perigueux and beyond, it is the perfect location to explore the Dordogne and Vezere river valleys. Le Buisson itself has at least 3 boulangeries, a weekly market, mini-market, post-office, ATM machine and a petrol/taxi station. Not forgetting the typical cafe/bar where you can watch life pass by over a cup of good coffee.

Aside from the 1,000 sq. metre pond with a variety of fish (mainly good-sized carp) on the property, local activities include swimming, canoeing, hiking, cycling and horse-riding. The Caves de Maxange are well-worth a visit and give information in English to visitors. Golf de Lolivarie gives 20% discount to our guests on its’ challenging 18-hole course only 10 minutes drive away. Hot-air ballooning offers stunning views of the surrounding rivers, chateaux and picturesque villages. Excellent nearby restaurants, gourmet street markets and night markets during the hotter summer months while the closest larger towns, Bergerac and Perigueux (40 minutes and 1 hour away respectively) offer a wider range of shops & restaurants.

The front door to the cottage takes you into the kitchen which features a ceramic hob, full-size electric oven, fridge, microwave & dining table. Adjacent to the kitchen is a spacious bathroom with a full-size bath and separate walk-in shower. From the kitchen 4 steps lead down to the living area and a cosy sleeping area. French doors in the living room open onto a decked patio under the boughs of a large walnut tree. Beyond that, a private garden dotted with cherry, pear and plum trees. A perfect place to chill out in the late afternoon sun....

Golf: There are several golf courses in the area, the nearest of which is Golf de Lolivarie, which has a challenging 18-hole course and friendly staff awaiting at the 19th....
