This is a lovely, comfortable and well furnished single storey cottage that is ideal for a peaceful relaxing holiday. Located in La Jonchere, a village just 7 miles from the beautiful coast at La Tranche sur Mer, it is deceptively large, with 4 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms, and ideally suited to couples, friends and families with older children (over 8) who enjoy wildlife, beaches, walks, watersports, exploring villages & sampling the great local food & wine! Birdwatching is excellent in this area. There is a lovely garden, with lots of flowers and trees, and a big south facing terrace, surrounded by lavender bushes. Fields of sunflowers near the village are stunning in July/August. The cottage is located in the South Vendee, in the Micro Climate area famed for having as many sunshine days as the Cote D'Azur. The local vineyards produce excellent wines, and freshly caught fish and seafood features on most menus. It is a wonderful place to do as much, or as little, as you like.

Our cottage is in a village surrounded by farmland, but close to great beaches, the wild Marais, &wooded hills and dunes. Some lovely gardens, Talmont St Hilaire Castle, A zoo & Tours of Mussel farms are all nearby. La Rochelle & Ile de Ré are within an hour's drive, & offer a fantastic day out. The aquarium, castles and museums at La Rochelle are fascinating, as are the arcaded shopping streets, and lovely restaurants. The Ile de Ré has lovely harbours - St Martin de Ré is delightful - lovely beaches & miles of cycle paths. Johnny Depp reputedly has a holiday home here!! Puy du Fou and Cinescenie -amazing Historical Park with 5 spectacular daytime shows to see. The Cinescenie at night is famed throughout France.Booking requ'd. There are pretty canalside villages like Coulon, and great Abbeys like Maillezais.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Changeover days out of the main summer season are flexible if the property is vacant.
    In July and August, changeover day will be Thursday to take advantage of cheaper ferry crossings and flights. Please get in touch to discuss options. Stays of part weeks may also be possible - please enquire!
    In July and August lets of 2 weeks are preferred, but we will take lets of 1 week, subject to a small charge to cover changeover costs.

    Payment can be made by cheque or paypal. A deposit of £150 will be requested at the time of booking, with the balance to be paid 8 weeks before departure.

    In addition, a refundable security deposit of £150 will be requested when you make full payment. This will be returned to you at the end of your stay, if the cottage is left clean with no damages
    A small welcome pack containing, amongst other things, milk, orange juice, bread, is provided on arrival.

    Please note that for the convenience of all guests, smoking is not permitted inside the cottage
  • All beds have duvets and pillows.
    Bedlinen can be provided at a rate of £7 per bed per stay to cover laundry charges.
    Please note that we do not provide towels.

Notes: We do not let this property to children under 8 years old. It is not wheelchair accessible due to the narrow doors, and the showers are both over a bath, so you need to be able to climb into and out of a bath.

We use the cottage regularly ourselves, so it is equipped with lots of little 'extras' that you don't always find in a holiday property. Little things like beach umbrellas, books and magazines, Hairdrier, Cool bag and blocks, toaster, teapots and Loo rolls make all the difference!! The 4 bedrooms and 2 separate living rooms make the accommodation very versatile, and the largest bedroom also has a big table, and a TV with video, so can be used as a second recreational area if required - our teenagers bring their games consoles and use them here, leaving the lounge free for others. The cottage has electric heaters in all the rooms for out of season breaks, and 2 separate water heaters, so there is always plenty of hot water. There is also a log burning stove in the lounge.

The Village of La Jonchere is very quiet, with a small shop open in the mornings, but it is close to Angles, a busy small town with shops, cafes, restaurants and bars, a tourist information office, street markets in the summer, and various evening entertainments throughout July and August. La Tranche sur Mer is a busy seaside town just 7 miles away, with lots of activities, restaurants etc. There are lots of other interesting places around and about, we have the best of both worlds. Nearby there are vast white sand beaches backed by sand dunes and Pine forests; river walks; the Venise Vert network of green canals and cycle paths, and harbours, bays and fishing ports. Les Sables D'Olonne, Lucon & Talmont are less than 30 minutes drive and La Rochelle, and the amazing Historical Park at Puy de Fou are within an hour. For those who like real excitement, there are watersports, high ropes courses, and Go karting close by, which are open between April and October.

There is a new swimming pool with a water chute in La Tranche sur Mer. Lots of Tourist Information about these and many other things, is provided at the cottage, as well as information about shops, places to eat etc.

Golf: There is an excellent golf course at Port Bourgenay, and a Pitch and Putt Par 3 course.

Other Activities: Fantastic Tree top rope courses for all the family at Indian Forest; GoKarting

What a lovely place to stay - a real home from home feel. Your cottage has everything you need and more and what a beautiful setting. We have seen numerous birds (storks, montagu's harrier and black kite to name a few!). We also saw a praying mantis! The weather has been fantastic - great for the kids - surfing, swimming and sandcastle building. Thanks!!
