Shamrock Cottage is situated in the small, picturesque, unspoilt village of Allithwaite just south of Cartmel and west of Grange-over-Sands. The village has 2 good pubs both serving good food and both being child and dog friendly too. The village also has a post office and convenience store that sells fresh bread and a 5 minute drive to Grange-over-Sands where you will find one of the best bakers and best butchers in the country along with a deli, green grocers and many great local shops too.
The rural train station of Kents Bank is a 5 minute walk away and this is on the Lancaster to Barrow, Lake District Peninsulas line and is one of England’s most scenic railways in England as it snakes its way along the Cumbrian coast. There are plenty of walks from the doorstep from nice easy strolls along the sea front to strenuous fell walking of all distances and complexity.
The cottage style kitchen has hand made wooden kitchen units, Belfast sink, and traditional quarry tiled floor, double oven and 4 ring hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dining table and 2 chairs. The kitchen door opens onto the patio area with steps leading up to the wonderful sun deck with table, chairs, wooden bench and stunning views across open fields to Morecambe Bay. The sumptuously furnished double bedroom has original stripped wooden floor, antiques and an impressive Victorian mahogany bed, satin wood chest of drawers and wardrobe. The single bedroom has a wealth of charm too and again is lavishly furnished and has a single, cast iron bed.
Outside is a wonderful sun deck with panoramic views of open fields and views across the Bay, an ideal place to sit and relax, ‘al fresco’ dining and being south facing is great sun trap.
The cottage is also provided with lots of interesting books including walking books and an additional folder with many walks and recommendations of local places of interest too.
