Smithy House dates back to the 1700s and has retained much of its traditional charm and character. It is set in the old part of Stainton on the village green. Smithy House has its own mature gardens and is ideal for those looking for a retreat away from the madding crowds but within easy reach of the many activities Cumbria has to offer. It is beautifully furnished and is a comfortable base to explore the Lake District. Smithy House has been awarded 4 star award by Visit Britain.

Stainton is ideally placed to enjoy the Northern Lake District and Eden Valley. It is only 10 minutes from the market town of Penrith with a wealth of shops, pubs, restaurants and famous open air Saturday market. The area is ideal for walking, Helvellyn and Blencathra are only a short ride away. The tranquil lanes are ideal for cycling and Stainton is on the Coast to Coast route. Stainton itself has a village inn and hotel only yards away with superb food, post office,small shop, farm shop and the Rheged Discovery Centre is minutes away. Rheged has a multi plex cinema and sells local goods in its shopping complex. Within yards of the house is the Alpaca centre.The market town of Keswick is 14 miles with its numerous climbing and walking shops as well as a range of restaurants and cafes. Lake Ullswater, often described as the most romantic lake , is only three and a half miles from the house.

Ground floor bedroom has cast iron slipper bath on raised travertine tiles with upper spot lights. This is perfect for relaxing and sipping champagne. There is a seperate adjoining wc with handbasin.

This bedroom has wonderful views of the mature gardens. On the first floor is the twin bedroom; Here there are 2 single beds with a built in wardrobe.There is also a flat screen tv with dvd player and docking station, this will allow children to be ocupied whilst adults enjoy themselves downstairs. On the first floor is also a 4 poster King size mahogany double bed. There is a corner shower with travertine tiles and a matching mahogany wardrobe. There is also a leather sofa bed for 2 adults in the lounge.

Smithy house is gas centrally heated and comprises, lounge with digital TV,DVD player docking station, Hi-fi, log burning stove and bed settee for two extra guests and a cot. Dining/kitchen with gas Esse range cooker, fridge/freezer and microwave. The utility room has washer/drier cooker and dishwasher. Master double bedroom with King size oak bed and furniture and en-suite bathroom with cast iron slipper bath, hand basin and WC. First floor has a twin bedroom with built in wardrobe and flat screen tv and dvd. The double bedroom has a four poster king sized mahogany bed and matching furniture, superb buit in shower and hand basin. The bathroom has shower, hand basin and WC. There is private parking for 2 cars. Large lawned garden with patio and garden furniture. Stainton is ideally placed to enjoy the Northern Lake District and the Eden Valley being only 3.5 miles from Pooley Bridge and Lake Ullswater.

Penrith a market town is only 10 minutes away, here there are a variety of shops, restaurants, supermarkets, pubs and a large open air Saturday market. There are superb opportunities for mountain and road cycling. The owner has left a mountain bike in the shed for your use and suggests the ride to Mungrisedale, Pooley Bridge or off road along the old coach road to Keswick. Walkers can take local walksand there is a lovely walk to the village of Dacre which has a pub. Serious walkers can attempt Blencathra and Helvelyn which are only a short car drive away. Stainton has a village pub, hotel,shop,post office,local farm shop and a church and the Rheged Discovery Centre is within walking distance. All gas, electric, logs, bed linen and towels included.

What a great place to explore the wonders of the lake district.
The home is stylishly furnished and and a joy to come back to after a day exploring.
The lounge with its wood burning fire is peerfect for unwinding and the kitchen is straight out of a Home and Garden feature.
The master bedroom has a stunning ensuite slipper bath and the other doubles 4 poster give a real baronial feel to the room, stylish and upmarket
Locally the pub is nice for a few drinks and the local hotel ( Brantwood) does superb rack of lamb and lots of other tasy dishes

The house is an excellt base for waling with the Helvellyn range and Keswick/Borrowdale Fells and Blencathra within easy distance. So nice to return to a warm, comfortable house wih good showers after a long day out. The house is ecellent value for money compared with some in the middle of the National Park and styish too. The village is quiet and the Brantwood is spot on for a few beers and great food when you don't want to cook. I'recommend it to anyone.

A comfortable, well equipped self-catering cottage with gardens, parking and 2 good local pubs.Excelllent food at the Brantwood Hotel (2mins walk away) with very friendly locals. The cottage is modern, spacious and finished to a very high standard.The cottage is in an excellent location just a short drive from Pooley Bridge, lake Ullswater and Keswick. We had an excellent weekend break and are planning our next visit in the near furture.
