As well as being a haven for walkers (see Wainwright's 'Walks on the Howgill Fells') and cyclists, we are set in stunning scenery just a mile from the attractive village of Ravenstonedale, which has a small shop, pubs serving good food, a tennis court and a golf course. You can enjoy trout fishing nearby, either on still water at Bessy Beck Fishery, or on the River Eden for which day tickets are readily available. Pony trekking and mountain bike hire are available nearby. The market town of Kirkby Stephen is only six miles away, and offers shopping as well as a golf course, and you can travel on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway from the station at Kirkby Stephen. Kendal, Penrith and Sedbergh are all within easy reach, as are The Lakes and The Dales.
There’s an abundance of bird life, and you may well spot buzzards and curlews along with the more common species. Red Squirrels, virtually non-existent in most parts of the country, are regular visitors to our grounds.
