Deux-Sevres holiday farmhouse: Vraire

In the past the house has played an important part in farming and wine making in the local area. The village is now very peaceful but would have been a busy place with its school and railway station which have long since disappeared. Le Pressoire is so named because it was once the wine making centre of the village, specialising in Anjou rosé wine. Indeed the original “pressoire” (wine press) is now a focal point at the front entrance to the house. Le Pressoire was built over 150 years ago and has traditional very thick stone walls - these keep out the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. Le Pressoire is a detached house which has a large, very private courtyard and parking area at the rear. Le Pressoire is an ancient longère - a very spacious single storey building is very well equipped for 8 people. The high open oak beamed ceilings, original doors and volets give the house its character. The very thick stone walls and volets keep the rooms cool in Summer.

All but two of the many windows are double glazed. This sympathetically converted property is an interesting and spacious, detached house. It has recently been re -decorated and re-furnished and is very comfortable with all new beds and bedding. Most of the other furniture is also new. The two log burners give a focal point to both the lounge and dining room. Plenty of logs, should they be needed are available in the barn outside. After a busy day - walking, cycling, sight seeing in the Loire Valley or enjoying the towns on the coast, it is an ideal place to relax, enjoy a meal, listen to music, read a book, watch TV or a DVD. Our immediate neighbours are very friendly and know everything about the property as they used to live there, producing wine for a living. As soon as we saw Le Pressoire we fell in love with it. We are confident that you too will enjoy this charming village house full of character.
