Charente holiday cottage: poursac

This 1800's traditional construction stone cottage is situated in the heart of the Poitou-Charente region, which is the second hottest region of France. During the summer months this area is famed for its fields of glorious sunflowers. The area enjoys good transport links, 25 min to nearest airport in Angouleme, Poitiers airport 50 min, Limoges 1hr 15, Bordeaux airport 2hrs, a train station in Ruffec and well served by main roads. The property was restored a year ago to a high standard. It has a wealth of exposed beams and original wooden floors. Its cosy lounge enjoys an exposed stone wall, traditional fireplace, wood burner, TV, DVD etc. It opens out on to a south facing terrace with plenty of outside seating and eating space. Its summer climate and working wood burning stove with a plentiful supply of wood, makes this an ideal all year round holiday location.

The cottage is situated near a river, on a cycle route, surrounded by quiet footpaths and near lots of interesting, historic places to see and do, but you are advised to have a car. The nearest village (3km) is the beautiful and historic Verteuil, with a picturesque Chateau over looking the River Charente, several restaurants, bars, a shop, Tennis court and two bakeries. It is a 40 min walk through quiet foot paths. There are numerous local night markets and evening events during the summer months. Poitiers and Futuroscope are 50km to the north, Angouleme 35km to the south, linked by fast roads, as are the beaches on the Vendée coast and vine region of Bordeaux that are within a 2 hours drive.
