Further details for this holiday house rental in St Andrews & North Fife, United Kingdom

On the ground floor there is a sitting room with TV which leads from the kitchen so guests can chat to the rest of their party while cooking.

In the kitchen there is a dining table which can be extended to accommodate up to eight people.

Also on the ground floor - a utility room and loo.

On the first floor there is a bathroom, a twin room and a large family room (which can double as an extra sitting room) with a wonderfully comfortable king size bed and a sofa bed.

Sometimes families opt to take the mattress and put it for one of their children in a different bedroom . The sofa bed can become a double bed but do give us notice of this is required.

On the top floor there is another double bedroom with a king size bed and a spacious single bedroom. Also on this floor - a walk-in shower off the landing.

If using a satellite navigaton system enter the postcode KY16 9DB or the nearest main street which is Argyll Street. As you enter the town on the A915, at the second mini roundabout (which is by the Whey Pat Tavern) take the first exit into Argyll Street. About 30 seconds later on a bend in the road, slow down and look on the left for Yorkston Guest House then immediately after that a small lane which looks like a wide footpath. It has a wooden fence on one side and a stone wall on the other. You may not see the sign for John Street as it is in faint lettering on a blue sign. Bizarrely the wall only has a sign for some flats in Argyll Street.

By rail - Nearest railway station is Leuchars 7 miles away on the main Edinburgh to Aberdeen line. Bus or taxi from Leuchars to St Andrews. Regular express buses from Edinburgh and Glasgow. The house is about a four minute walk from the bus station. By plane- Edinburgh airport 40 miles away. Dundee airport 12 miles.

The route below suggested by the AA is quick (about one hour and 20 minutes from Edinburgh) since it avoids the bottle neck of Cupar. It is also an attractive route particularly as you skirt the sea and when you later descend a hill and see St Andrews for the first time.

If coming from the west on the M8 or from Edinburgh, head north on the M90 then branch off at junction 2a for the A92. When you reach a large roundabout, DO NOT take the exit for the rest of the A92 which is signposted for St Andrews. Instead take the third exit - which has no sign. After a mile you will pick up signs for the A915 which you follow all the way to St Andrews. The only thing to remember is that in a village called Upper Largo you make a sharp left turn instead of going straight on. The sign to the left - which says A915 - is often covered by foliage. `

St Andrews Cottage

Review Submitted: February 22, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2009
Our family of 4 and my sister's family of 4 all managed to make the most of our holiday in St Andrews. The cottage was extremely comfortable and we enjoyed some particularly sunny days in which were were able to have some meals in the the stunning garden. It was an ideal base to explore St Andrews and the gorgeous wee Fife villages nearby. Our favourite restaurant was the Doll's House in St Andrews. We loved the fact that we could just walk to the centre of the town in minutes. The park nearby was great for my boisterous nephews to let off steam! Also we enjoyed the botanic gardens which were very close to the cottage. The instructions in the house were very useful and we didn't encounter any problems at all. Would highly recommend this cottage. We definitely want to return at some point in the future.

Wonderful holiday home

Review Submitted: February 1, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2009
This holiday home was very much as described in the adverisement. It's location is very good for those visiting the university, the golf course, or simply the charming town of St. Andrews. The home was well-supplied and the hostess went out of her way to accommodate our needs. The bedrooms are large and pretty, the kitchen has all you need, the living area is very comfortable, and the garden is delightful. We found that this was a great spot for children: there is a large park with a playground very near, and the home had toys and childrens books for their use. The stairs are rather steep, so probably not so good for those will mobility problems. Crawling/learning-to-walk babies would need to be monitored closely. Having lived in St. Andrews several years ago, this home felt very Scottish to us (we are Canadian), and we would have gladly moved in permanently! We highly recommend this for your holiday.
