Information on the Property:
The Cabin has a large (15 sq m) balcony with lovely views of the Sauerland mountains and forests. A large awning offers protection from the sun in the balcony, making it a great area for relaxing throughout the year. There is a large rattan dining table and four comfy chairs in the balcony for use of the guests. Two sets of trekking (nordic walking) poles, a wooden sleigh in full working order, two mountain bikes and 4 pairs of cross-country skis (Nordic norm 3 pin binding) are permanently available at the property at no extra charge.
The balcony offers space to grill and dine al fresco. For grilling in the forest area of Holzhausen, please contact Mr. Blank Werner, Tel: 06452 / 8379.
A kettle, toaster, electric grill for use in the balcony, fondue set and a milk heater are available at the Cabin.
Please note that there is no tv connectivity or phone line at Die Kabine. However a TV set is available and we offer a selection of videos and DVDs in several languages.
Local Information:
The Sauerland is well known for its mature forests and well developed and accessible network of cyling and walking paths suiting all levels of ability. The Cabin benefits from access to many of these paths within metres.

The Kellerwald-Edersee National Park with the Edersee lake offering watersports and bathing in the summer begins within a 20 km drive away. The ski run Sackpfeiffe is also an attractive destination all year round as it operates one of its lifts for a childrens' bob run and has nice walks anong the cross-country ski paths. The Sauerland forests are mixed - very good for mushrooming from late August to October.
Local Sightseeing:
MARBURG : Details of the historic city of Marburg (1/2h. drive away). Enjoy a slow walk through one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe, whilst browsing the small shops and great cafes. The Brothers Grimm wrote many of their fairytales here. If you would like to avoid the steep hill into the old town, you can try the Parkhaus Oberstadt which has a lift that takes you all the way up!.
BAD WILDUNGEN: A beautiful spa town which makes a nice day out. It also has a pretty old town with a castle and a series of half timbered decorated houses. The view from the castle terrace is exceptional with a lovely cafe to stop by. Well worth a visit!. FRANKENBERG
This the nearest town, with a medieval old town at the top and some excellent restaurants. KASSEL: We recommend a visit to the Brothers Grimm Museum. FRITZLAR: A small but very interesting walled medieval town with beautiful architecture in the main square.
Ski:
The property is located 30km south of Skiliftkarussell Winterberg, the largest European ski resort north of the Alps.
Local slopes are closer, the nearest about 12 km away (Sackpfeiffe, A simple ski-run, with a attractive little pub and a couple of cut cross-country ski runs. No snow cannons, so check the ski conditions on the link Schneebericht / Liftbetrieb. There is a delightful and cosy pub at the bottom of the slopes for those who prefer to relax watching the skiers.
Snow-World Zueschen, about 25km away, offers the closest tobogganing runs with snow cannon and a bespoke sled-lift. The best cross-country skiing is at Pastorenwiese, about 20km away.
