A beautiful, idyllic, wooden clad holiday home in the style of a chalet on the edge of the quiet and picturesque village of Holzhausen within proximity of the river Eder. Excellent for winter sports, walking, cycling or just touring and relaxing. Die Kabine offers modern comfort whilst still retaining lots of rural charm and displaying its rustic heritage. The property is 60 sq m and comprises two bedrooms, one containing a double bed and the second decorated with traditional but very comfortable pine bunk beds. In total, it accommodates four people and it also offers additional sleeping space for two children in the cosy attic. The kitchen offers full cooking facilities including a gas cooker and oven and a fridge with a small freezer compartment. A toaster, kettle, coffee machine, fondue set, electric grill and milk heater are also available. There is a flat screen colour television set, a DVD and video player with DVDs and Videos in English, Spanish and German.

Holzhausen is on the Eastern edge of the Rothaargebirge Nature Park. Skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, bobsleigh (both summer and winter), cross country skiing, nordic walking, mountain biking, cycling and motorcycling, gliding, horse riding, swimming, fishing, hunting and relaxing. The Sauerland is well known for its mature forests and well developed and accessible network of cyling and walking paths suiting all levels of ability. The property benefits from access to many of these paths within metres. Close to the property there is also a very pleasant cycle path along the banks of the river Eder (following an old railway line), which is suitable for beginners. The property is located 30km south of Winterberg, the largest European ski resort north of the Alps. Local slopes are closer, the nearest about 12 km away (which also operates one of its lifts in the summer for a childrens' bob run).

  • The property is managed by a local resident who will ensure Die Kabine is clean and ready for your arrival. Linen, including bedclothes, towels and kitchen towels are available at a cost of 45 euros per stay. The property is about 5 hours' drive from Calais on a very direct, fast motorway, toll-free route.

    Die Kabine is normally rented on a weekly basis, from Saturday to Saturday although we are flexible and if you require arrival on an alternative day, we will do our best to accommodate you without incurring any extra charges.

Information on the Property: The property has a large (15 sq m) balcony with lovely views of the mountains and forests. A large awning offers protection from the sun in the balcony, making it a great area for relaxing throughout the year. There is a large rattan dining table and four comfy chairs in the balcony for use of the guests. Two sets of trekking (nordic walking) poles, a wooden sleigh in full working order, two mountain bikes and 4 pairs of cross-country skis (Nordic norm 3 pin binding) are permanently available at the property at no extra charge. The balcony offers space to grill and dine al fresco. For grilling in the forest area of Holzhausen, please contact Mr. Blank Werner, Tel: 06452 / 8379. A kettle, toaster, electric grill for use in the balcony, fondue set and a milk heater are available at the property. Please note that there is no tv connectivity or phone line at Die Kabine. However a TV set is available and we offer a selection of videos and DVDs in several languages.

Local Information: The Sauerland is well known for its mature forests and well developed and accessible network of cyling and walking paths suiting all levels of ability. Local Sightseeing: MARBURG : Details of the historic city of Marburg (1/2h. drive away). Enjoy a slow walk through one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe, whilst browsing the small shops and great cafes. The Brothers Grimm wrote many of their fairytales here. If you would like to avoid the steep hill into the old town, you can try the Parkhaus Oberstadt which has a lift that takes you all the way up!. http://www.marburg.de/en/24679. BAD WILDUNGEN: A beautiful spa town which makes a nice day out. It also has a pretty old town with a castle and a series of half timbered decorated houses. The view from the castle terrace is exceptional with a lovely cafe to stop by. Well worth a visit!. http://bad.wildungen.info/. FRANKENBERG This the nearest town, with a medieval old town at the top and some excellent restaurants. KASSEL: We recommend a visit to the Brothers Grimm Museum. FRITZLAR: A small but very interesting walled medieval town with beautiful architecture in the main square.

We would like to thank you for letting us stay in Die Kabine during our recent holiday break. We had a great time sightseeing and walking in the forests. The property was really cosy and beautifully decorated and we even had breakfast in the balcony one morning. The area is so quiet and tranquil!. We loved your recommended day trips and we are planning to return with our little grandson in February to introduce him to skiing.

We have spent the last weekend in Die Kabine and had a glorious time. It was the perfect setting for a weekend away from the city, with lots of walking and reading. Our daughters loved the music boxes and the collection of cow bells. Your instructions were perfect and the chalet was very clean. Next time we will be staying longer!.

Tranquility and a beautiful location

I took my family for a long weekend break to Die Kabine recently and we absolutely loved it. The chalet is located in a breathtakingly beautiful area and the views from the balcony are of totally unspoilt forests. Our children loved the freedom of being able to run around the garden and they also made some friends in the village. We really liked the fact that the property is beautifully decorated. We have done self-catering before and the properties tend to be cheaply decorated which is a bit depressing. This is completely different, very stylish but yet very authentic. You can tell that the owners have spent a lot of time in decorating it and the adults in the family really appreciated that little bit of luxury. We will be back!.

The thing we found particularly fantastic was that as well as being a lovely traditional German Kabine, it felt like we were staying in someone's home and that made us feel very comfortable. Everything we needed was available and it was very peaceful. The children loved the sofa and secret sleeping areas!. The view from the balcony was lovely. We will recommend Die Kabine to our friends. "

"It really is a beautiful spot. We love birdwatching and could watch the falcons and buzzards from the balcony. Everything in the cabin was very comfortable and we were pleasantly surprised by how much space we actually had. We also used the bikes daily!. Your instructions and information were all so helpful --you are a very good host --thank you so much .We would thoroughly recommend Die Kabine to our friends!." -
