Sample the delights of the Languedoc countryside by staying in our newly refurbished studio in the heart of the traditional wine-making village of Roujan. Set on a hill, surrounded by vines, this ancient, pretty 'circulade' village offers all the local amenities that you will need (bakers, cafe, grocer, bank, Post Office etc.) and is only a 25 min drive to the beaches of the Mediterranean and close to 4 international airports (Beziers being the closest at only 20 min drive away). The 'jewel' of Pézenas is only a 10 min drive, with it's carved stone façades and lively Saturday morning market. This is our local centre for shopping and culture. The town is full of galleries and local artisans selling their wares.
The house, know locally as 'La Grande Maison', was built by M. Cabal in the late 1700's as a showcase of his wealth (he did rather well fighting for Louis XVIII) and newly attained status as administrator for the Hérault department.
Built in a classic U shape, hugging what was originally an impressive park, the house is set up with stunning views across the vines towards the neighbouring village of Caux. The house has since been divided, and a year ago we purchased the north 'wing'. On arrival you will find a detailed 'Guest Handbook' packed full of great ideas on what to do in the area and a welcome 'Hamper' in the fridge. We can also stock up the kitchen with supplies, just let us have your shopping list in advance. Also if your visit is during the high season, we would be happy to secure you a reservation at a recommended local eatery, as they can get booked up and we would hate for you to miss out!
