Scottish Highlands & Islands holiday cottage: Lochinver

This traditional croft cottage sleeps 4. One double bedroom and one bedroom with twin single beds. The sitting room is equipped with satellite TV which takes DVD's, CD's and IPOD's. It has an open fire place. The dining room has an open aspect on both sides and is a bright and cheery room. There is a large dining table which will comfortably sit 6. It has a music system which plays CD's and takes IPOD's. The kitchen has a set of oak cupboards and is fully equipped. There is a gas hob and an electric oven, washing machine, fridge freezer, dish washer, microwave and a coffee machine (Nespresso capsules required). There is also a sandwich maker and a toaster. The spacious bathroom has a shower, wc and sink. The cottage is centrally heated and all gas and fuel is included in the price. There is an outside dining area which has magnificent views northwards to Foinaven across Eddrachillis Bay. Assynt is in Sutherland one of the most remote and beautiful parts of Scotland.

It is a land of steep mountains, trout filled lochs and spectacular sea views and cliff scenery. There are 5 small, utterly quiet, sandy beaches within 5 miles of the cottage. Within a 10 minute walk there is Porsht, a small cove ideal for swimming, canoeing or snorkelling. Locally, trout fishing, both brown and sea trout, deer stalking, birdwatching, whale watching, sea kayaking, mountain walking and climbing, are all available. Assynt is bisected by the Moine Thrust, a geological fault and the area along the fault is designated a Geopark, one of only seven in the UK. The nearby villages of Lochinver or Drumbeg have a full range of shops and restaurants. In the summer this is, nearly, the land of the midnight sun, it hardly gets dark. In the winter the mountains are snow clad and with a bit of luck with the weather the Northern Lights will flash across the skies.
