Thetford is the birthplace of Thomas Paine, who was the catalyst for the American and French Revolution and a staunch anti Slavery campaigner. He was born in an unknown house in upper White Hart Street on 29th Jan 1737, he attended the Thetford Grammar School which is a short walk from the property. It is close to historic cities of Norwich, Cambridge. Thetford is situated on the edge of the Breckland forest and an hours drive from the stunning North Norfolk coastline. The Neolithic flint mines of Grimes Graves are nearby. The Ancient House Museum, itself a Grade I Listed medieval Merchants House, within sight of the property, details the towns rich and vibrant history, such as the Clunaic Priory ruins, the Iron age earthworks and the subsequent Norman motte and Bailey castle.
