Surrey holiday chateau / country house: Wonersh Near Guildford

The beautiful surrey countryside provides the ideal quiet location for Great Tangley Manor, a stunning house for 12 guests, with additional accommodation available for 4 optionally available in a wing in the owners' section of the extensive property.

We stayed for my 30th birthday, and my guests were delighted by the lovely rooms, all different in character, and the original period features of most of the house. We made great use of the space, including the large kitchen, where we easily had enough room to prepare our own meals. It was too hot to use the dining hall, but the garden furniture meant we could dine out in the courtyard where the pond is and enjoy the summer evening air with good food and wine.

The relaxing grounds were a lovely way to spend a lazy couple of sunny days, and there was enough space for everyone to find a quiet corner or play a game of croquet as desired. It is a shame that the hire of the property doesn't include the use of the lawn in front of the dining room, especially given the expensive rental price, but we still had plenty of other parts of the garden to explore.

My favourite part of the property were the upper bedrooms and bathrooms, one of which exults in its seventies Heffner-style decor, to much to the hilarity of my guests!

It was a shame that some of the features of the property weren't working - the ice machine in the fridge, the tumble dryer function, the lost key for the conservatory (kitchen extension door), the sliding doors in one of the kitchen, and that the occasional beds were not made up for us when we arrived (and that we ran out of toilet paper and had to buy our own, even though most guests stayed only 2 nights!) - just because these are small things which would have made the experience 100% perfect - but overall the property was in good repair and our guests thought it a fantastic place to spend the weekend.

I would recommend this as a real treat for anyone looking for a large location to spend the weekend with their friends.



The owners and manager were very helpful.

I stayed at GTM the night before my wedding with parents, close family and friends. As soon as our guests arrived they were enamoured with the beauty of the manor and the the history it is steeped in.
The dining room is a perfect place for a big family meal. The old fashioned table, walls and windows made the whole experience magical.
History aside, it was fantastic to have the modern kitchen which ensured the family sat around for breakfast together, sun shining through the windows as we prepared for the big day.
For a perfect wenflish countryside getaway I couldn't rate any hotel more.

OK, so we hired Great Tangley Manor for our Civil Partnership weekend of celebrations, as we wanted to be with our nearest and dearest for a few days rather than have the traditional reception and then people disappear or stay in a hotel.

From the minute we saw the house "WOW" was the only word that came to mind. The approach to the grounds, all of the accomodations, the history, the atmosphere, everything was perfect.

The house played a huge part in making our weekend so memorable, everyone loved the space and respected the history and beauty of the surroundings.

Thank you so much for everything, the listings and photos do not do any justice to just how stunning the house is when you see it with your own eyes.

Everything was clean and the owners provided impeccable service. I would recommend this property to anyone who has great taste and wants to make a special event or celebration perfect.

We hope to visit again, especially my Mother, who settled in way too easily and did not want to leave.
