Photos and Description of this Daglan holiday barn Within cycling distance of 11th century Domme in gorgous countryside

In the heart of the area known as the Golden triangle, La Prairie is ideally situated squarely in the middle of one of the most exquisite regions of France. 1001 castles adorn the countryside alongside world renowned prehistoric sites Hilltop villages are to be found around every corner and the 11th century village of Domme is within cycling distance. La Roque Gageac and its beautiful medieval chapel sit on the banks of the river Dordogne as though time has stood still. Here at La Prairie we offer you 3 beautiful cottages and a fabulous farmhouse from which to choose, all sharing an extraordinary swimming pool. This stunning tiled pool of original design has a natural sloping beach and steps. It is also floodlit from within and even has its own water flow system that makes the water choppy. There are plenty of wooden sun-loungers, all spaced for privacy, and a beautifully constructed oak shelter with wooden decking that extends to the pool side.

Details for The Byre 3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6, 1 Bathroom

Formerly a cattle byre, our guests just love the kitchen that has been build to incorporate the former feeding stalls. A delightful house decorated in pinks and greens and blues using a lot of craft work and patchwork quilts. The sitting room is off from the kitchen down two little steps. This is a family favorite and is so cosy! Cool in the summer and warm and welcoming in the winter, the ideal retreat to snuggle up and watch your favorite movie. The terrace to the Byre is perhaps the best place on the estate to sit in the evening and watch the fabulous sunsets or lazily pass the time watching the swallows swoop and dive overhead. There are fabulous views over the village towards the castle keep and down the valley towards the Chateau De Castelnaud.

Just a short distance by car which takes you through the Valley Du Ceou, up the hill and around the corner and here you are at La Prairie. The lovely little village of Daglan lies snuggled in the valley below and boasts one of the loveliest restaurants in the Dordogne (certainly the best place to eat outside). Le Peyruzel which lies opposite La Prairie has a hill top 11th century castle and is clearly visible from all of our 4 houses. Nearby lies the jewel in the crown of this extraordinary region: La Roque Gageac, a tiny village that lies precariously close to the Dordogne river and is so exquisite and romantic that it deserves to be seen at dawn when it lies peaceful and quiet and lost in a time warp. There is a strong expectation of seeing a damsel or a knight emerge from one of the ancient houses. And what about those magical, fairy tale castles? How many will we be able to see whilst we are here. Three or maybe we could squeeze in 10?.

Having decided that clambering over your partner to get into your side of the bed is not the ideal situation, we have knocked through to the twin bedroom to create a lovely big and spacious bedroom with a 180cms double bed. With lovely views across the fields and towards the Chateau Du Peyruzel this bedroom will very quickly make The Byre a favorite amongst our guests. There is a pretty bunk bedroom with new bunk beds and both bedrooms are provided with storage space (chest of drawers, cupboards or hanging space). There are bedside lamps of course and pretty bed linen with soft luxurious towels. Photographs of this bedroom will be coming as soon as we have finished!

Notes: The house is sadly unsuited to the very elderly or the infirm. For this I apologize. It is however loved by children! Pets are most welcome of course. Due to the change in bedroom arrangements we have also altered the living room and are providing 2 gorgeous couches one of which is convertible should the need for an extra sleeping space become necessary for visiting friends or family.

Further details for this holiday barn rental in Daglan, France

Those little extras.....: Having taken holidays in the past with a well known British company that provides luxurious accommodation throughout the British Isles, we have learnt much from our time with them and have applied their diligent strategies to our own homes here in the Dordogne. We have taken it upon ourselves to provide everything that could be wished for in a self catering accommodation. Those little things that we take for granted at home but rarely find provided when we leave to holiday abroad are always provided here at La Prairie. After all it would be nice to arrive to a home that is welcoming. Where there is a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge and orange juice for the children or for breakfast. Some strawberry biscuits would be nice and also a cold bottle of spring water. It would be even nicer to find that there is toilet paper, a bag in the dustbin, kitchen roll and dishwasher tablets and some washing machine powder for that first inevitable wash that will need doing.

More little extras....: During an early spring one year we rented a house in the Pyrenees and after a long tiring journey we arrived to find that the fire had not been lit and the house was cold. The beds were unmade and there were no towels. The fridge was empty and there was not even pepper and salt. Arriving at La Prairie is the antithesis of this unfortunate situation that befell us many years ago. Arrive during the cooler months and the wood burners will be burning brightly. The beds will be freshly made and the bathroom sparkling clean with towels laid out ready for use and soft bath mats. There will undoubtedly be a fresh table cloth waiting for you to lay the oak table for supper. Candles will be ready to be lit. But best of all is the knowledge that if I have somehow overlooked the essential item to make your holiday complete, then let me know and I, within limits, will provide what is missing.

For our younger guests....: Having had a brood of children ourselves, we understand the need to provide everything to make your holiday as unstressful as possible. The very thought of flying into Bergerac or driving down with push chairs, potties, changing mats, cots, bedding, baby listening devices, toys, books, plastic dishes, high chairs, stair gates, a baby relax chair and goodness knows what else, is ridiculous. So we provide it. All of it. And once again if anything is missing, let me know.

Golf: La Prairie is very fortunately situated within a few miles of one of the most beautiful golf courses in the South West of France. That it happens to be next to the river Dordogne and home to a well known gastronomic restaurant is a wonderful piece of luck! After all, when those 18 holes are done and dusted who would dream of objecting to a cold beer on the terrace of Rochebois or perhaps a candle lit dinner?

Other Activities: Hot air ballooning, paintball, quad bike riding

Do not hesitate to book this gite! La Prairie is such a beautiful place, the views from the terrace at The Byre are to die for, the gite has so much character and the location is stunning. Even the views from the pool are amazing, and the pool itself is gorgeous. Within easy reach of all the best sights it is perfectly located. A week just isn't long enough. This was our first holiday with out little 9 month old daughter and it fitted the bill perfectly.
