Our ground floor apartment in the beautiful resort of Los Alcazares on the Costa Calida is the ideal accommodation if you are looking for a holiday in a typically Spanish low rise resort on the shores of the Mar Menor. Only 800m from the safe sandy beaches,10 min stroll & a golf course 2 minutes away! Set in a beautifully landscaped complex with 3 award winning swimming pools (two with ramped access for wheelchairs) our apartment is truly wheelchair accessible. With a larger than usual terrace overlooking the pools, level entrance french doors, 30in wide internal doors & a custom built 'wet room' this is the ideal property for any person with mobility limitations/wheelchair user or indeed a young family. Los Alcazares is situated in the Murcia region of south-eastern Spain, also known as the Costa Calida. The town sits on the shore of the Mar Menor, a saltwater lagoon separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a 22 kilometre long strip of land called La Manga. For families with small children the clean sandy beach is very safe, with shallow water and little tide. There is also an attractive 7k promenade dotted with numerous beachfront bars. The area has an average of 320 days of sunshine each year. Numerous bars, cafes and restaurants (Spanish, Indian, Chinese, English) provide a wide variety of drinks, meals and entertainment. There is a lively market on Saturday & Tuesday when a variety of bargain goods are available. For golfers there are at least 7 golf courses (4 of international standard) located within a short drive including the popular La Manga Club. The historical Moorish cities of Murcia & Cartagena are easily reached by car and well worth a visit.

Additional information about rental rates

  • All rental rates are per week, and changeover day is flexible to suit your flight arrangements. A £50 non-refundable deposit is required for each week booked, and the balance is due 6 weeks before the holiday start date. A £100 damage waiver (separate cheque) is required with the balance. This cheque will be returned within 2 weeks of your return, following cleaning/checking of the apartment by our agent in Spain.
    Departure from the property on the last day is generally by 11am. However if there is no booking coming in on your last day the departure time can be negotiable.
  • A meet and greet service is available at the airport and this will be charged locally. More details are available when you enquire. A welcome pack is also available, and again this is paid for locally to our agent. This is very convenient if you are arriving on a late flight, however the local shops are only 5 minutes from the apartment.
  • ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT HIRE
    We can arrange for the hire of baby eqiupment such as cot / high chair / baby bath etc. Likewise if you require any mobility equipment during your stay, such as shower chair, electric scooter etc. this can be booked for you with our local agent. Notes: The apartment is ideally situated within the complex for both young families and for elderly/infirm/wheelchair users, as it is directly facing the swimming pools. The extra-large terrace is gated giving peace of mind to parents when young children are playing outdoors. For older children -they will be able to be swimming in the pools while parents are only feet away sitting on the terrace! The complex is level, giving wheelchair users (and buggies) an easy ride. The kitchen is fully equipped to allow you to have a great self-catering holiday. The open plan living area is tastefully furnished and has the benefit of having air conditioning for the summer and heating for the winter months.

THE MAR MENOR: Mar Menor (Little Sea) is a unique area located on the east coast of Spain, within the region of Murcia, just above the city of Cartagena. Few regions have the good fortune to have both a saltwater lake and a Mediterranean shore. The region of Murcia has both and the salt water lake with an area of 170sq.km is known as Mar Menor, the largest salt water lake in Europe. Mar Menor is part of the Costa Calida. The area dates back to prehistoric times but most remains found date from the Roman and Arabic periods. The Romans valued the area highly and developed a valuable salt industry. It was about 1000 years ago that the lake took on the appearance it has today. Murcia's climate has been described by the World Health Organisation as one of being the best in the world. Murcia's summers are hot but not too hot due to the cooling breezes and winters are mild.

Tough decision to call something 'Perfect'

My wife and I are in our early 70's and have family living in Spain thus we tend to spend our holidays there. Over the years we have stayed in several places but this one has to be the best yet.
As I said in the headline, to call something 'perfect', it has to be pretty good. Well let me list them:
1. Perfect service via the owners of this property.
2. Easy to find via instructions supplied.
3. Great Welcome from the owners representatives who could not be more helpful, including almost having the coffee on the boil when we arrived.
4. Excellent 2 bed accommodation which for once did not have the concrete mattresses that we have come across so often in the past. Living room walks out to a small private balcony with table and four chairs which in turn opens up onto a much larger patio with 2 sunbeds available. Groundfloor apartment with views directly over the palm tree patio area with two swimming pools. Ramps down from the apartment to the pool patio where one of the pools has a ramp for disabled wheelchair users to get into the pool easily.
5. 'Easy' stroll down to a parade of shops, bars and restaurants with some excellent eating places at very reasonable prices. Details will be found in the apartment.
6. 'Easy' stroll through the parade of shops down to a 'massive' sea front promenade which also has one or two bars/restaurants scattered along the front.
Personally, we could not fault the whole package. We had an excellent week.
I would think that Los Alcazares and this apartment is the 'perfect' place for ALL ages - and certainly for the elderly or those wheelchair bound.
We loved it and will undoubtedly be back next year.

The apartment is very well placed for visitors to stroll to the prom, a leisurely walk at any time of the day. True to say the choice of places to eat gives variety every time we go. Every season has it's own charm on the Mar Menor and we look forward to welcoming our guests back time and again.

Great relaxing holiday

This is the best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in the apartment was clean and well-maintained everything you needed for a self catering holiday was supplied in the apartment.A really nice welcome from sue and tony when we arrived at the property. And as a full time wheelchair user the apartment was ideal for me with its wide doors and no steps.there are also two great pools on the complex one with a ramp and the complex was very clean.
A 5-10 min walk to a wide choice of good restaurants and shops
And a 10 min walk to the marvellous beach with wheelchair access and beach bars.
I must say a big thank you to Kathleen for all the help
and advice you gave to us when booking the apartment and organising airport transfer. you have made this a stress free holiday for us and I look forward to our return next year.

Enjoyable Holiday

I spent a great week in Kathleens very commodating apartment with my two carers. I am confined to a wheelchair and it is difficult to find a holiday that suits my needs. This holiday was everything and more that she actually promised us; as we have been to many apartments which have said that it was wheelchair friendly but they have not been. The apartment is spacious and comfortable and the complex is extremely secured,clean and well kept.

Everything you need is in walking distance, the airport is only 8 minutes from the apartment. We had hired a car but really we did not need to as we only used it twice.

The weather was fabulous, and I was able to get into to pool without difficulty which was the highlight of the holiday. Well worth a return visit.

WONDERFUL HOLIDAY

I went on holiday with my husband and two young children, aged 9 and 3.
We had a wonderful holiday. After being met at the airport, by taxi driver, Steve, we were then greeted at the apartment by Sue and Tony, who were very welcoming and helpful.
The apartment is very spacious, clean, well equipped and ideally located.
Our boys loved the pool and the fact the apartment is on the ground floor we were able to keep a close eye on them at all times.
The local restaurants and bars are very good, The Chinese (on the main road) was excellent value for money.
The beach is about a 10 min walk away and is kept very clean.
We will definitely recommend this property to others and will hopefully visit again in the near future.
Thank you for a very memorable and enjoyable holiday.

Great holiday with the perfect apartment

My partner and I have just returned from our first trip to Los Alcazares on 19/4/09. Firstly I have to say the apartment was fantastic! Very comfortable and had everything we needed. The additional extras Kathleen catered for within the apartment were a very nice touch i.e. dvds, games, kitchen supplies and lots of fresh towels and bedding. Couldn't have asked for anything better. The complex is so fresh and clean and it was a pleasure to wake up to in the morning. The pool although a bit cold at this time of year was great and about 15 steps from the apartment.

We found Los Alcazares to be very welcoming with lots of nice places to eat and drink and the walks down to the beach were lovely. All in all a great holiday and we will definitely go back, hopefully to the same apartment if available.

An added bonus also is the airport transfer is no more than a 10 minute journey.

Thank you once again for making our holiday so comfortable.
