Travelling to the cottage was an experience in itself!! We didn't get around to emailing for directions to the cottage so, although we arrived at St. Yrieix La Perche with no problem, no one in the town could tell us where the cottage was. However, with just one phone call to the owners, they kindly directed us straight to the cottage, in the dark.
Once we had arrived being late it wasn't until the morning that we appreciated what a beautiful setting we were in. We even strolled the garden in our bed clothes and no one was anywhere close to see us.All the facilities were very good, and the bread, wine, milk and water were very much appreciated as it meant we didn't have to go out again that day.
The garden furniture was very comfy including the hammock, which easily lulled you to sleep in the sunshine. If we had had little children, then all the toys in the caravan, tree house and games indoors would have been brilliant.
The food at the hotel/restaurant at Jumelac Le Grand was delicious, followed by an evening tour by candlelight of the chateau. A slightly longer trip but enjoyable was to Les Eyzies, to see the Prehistoric Caves and then onto Les Eyzies- De -Tayac where you find houses built onto the cliff face. Well worth the journey.
Limoges is a beautiful, interesting city with a huge, mainly food indoor market but make sure you get there before 2.00pm when it closes. The Cathedral is a must see building with bright colourful stainglass windows.
The local tourist office in St Yrieix is very good. The women were very helpful and spoke very good english if you couldn't speak fluent french.
We would recommend Railway Cottage to anyone and everyone, who wants tranquility, peace and to lose themselves in time.
Owner's Response: Its a real pleasure to see that people enjoy the cottage as much as we do! Please also note - Directions to our 'Railway Cottage' will now automatically be sent with keys two weeks before your holiday date.
