Lunenburg is the best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement in North America. Established in 1753, it has retained its original layout and overall appearance, based on a rectangular grid pattern drawn up in the home country. The inhabitants have managed to safeguard the city's identity throughout the centuries by preserving the wooden architecture of the houses some of which date from the 18th century. There are some 400 major buildings within the old town, 70 percent of them from the 18th and 19th centuries, almost all of them wood, and many colourfully painted.   • Our rates are based on Friday-Friday rental in the summer season but we aim to be as flexible as possible subject to availability, should you wish to arrive on a different day. We also offer short or long term rentals in the 'off season' and on a 'last minute' basis whenever the house is available. Normal arrival time is after 4pm with an 11am departure. A $500 deposit is required upon booking.
