A relaxing base for enjoying the South of France

This property was very accurately described, and was a beautiful, light and airy house (with air conditioning - very useful in August!). The gardens around the house are very pretty, and the house is positioned next to the owner's property, but several hundred metres back from a fairly minor road, so it is secluded and peaceful. The pool is just a few steps from the door, and we used it every day - great for cooling off in the heat. I would definitely recommend the property to a friend (though not to anyone infirm, as the stairs are quite steep). The property is close to the edge of a tiny village, and the surrounding countryside is mostly composed of vineyards, with many lovely walks, and wild almonds, blackberries and figs quite common.
The owners were very kind and welcoming to us, and will be able to advise you on suitable places to visit, and to offer useful local knowledge (for example, to arrive at Carcassonne old town at around 8am to be able to park, and to look around before it becomes completley packed with tourists).
They have also provided folders of leaflets on local attractions, including restaurants.
We enjoyed :
- Carcassone old town (try the little 'train' ride around the outside of the walls with headphone commentary in a huge range of languages)
- Rennes le Chateau - a village high on a hill (to the south) with magnificent views
- Caves and deep cavern at Limousin (near Carcassonne)
- Boat trip down the Canal du Midi from Homps (15 minutes drive from the property)
But there are many other attractions!
