Chamonix Getaway is in the centre of Chamonix, 2 minutes walk from shops and bars. This self-catering flat (90m²) has just been completely refurbished and renovated. It can sleep 6 people very comfortably in 1 double bedroom with en-suite shower room, 1 twin room, and a separate mezzanine with a double bed. There is also a big family bathroom and a third toilet. The separate brand-new kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, oven, hob. The sitting-room has a TV/DVD, CD player and a lovely fire place, as well as a double sofa bed. In addition, there is full benefit of off-street parking, a garage space, and a cave for skis.

Skiing and snowboarding: Chamonix is one of the world's most famous ski areas, having hosted the first Winter Olympics in 1924. Skiers and snowboarders of all levels are well-served in a variety of differing areas around Chamonix, including Brevent, Flegere, the famous Grands Montets and Domaine du Balme. The Mont Blanc pass also covers nearby areas including Les Houches, St Gervais, Megeve, Courmayeur and Les Contamines, all within an easy drive. Slightly further afield, but within an hour's drive are Verbier, La Thuile, Flaine and Les Carroz. Despite its reputation as an area for experts only, there are plenty of green, blue and red runs to satisfy beginners and intermediate skills. For the more experienced, Chamonix has miles and miles of adventurous off-piste, including the famous Vallee Blanche, an 18Km experience from the Aiguille du Midi down to town.

Summer and the rest of the year: With the draw of Europe's premier natural attraction, Mont Blanc, Chamonix never sleeps. Whether it's simply to soak up the stunning scenery or get the adrenaline pumping, there is plenty for everybody to do all year round. There are a wide variety of marked trails for hiking and trekking; well-maintained bolted routes for rock-climbing; limitless mountaineering opportunities including Mont Blanc itself; an ever-expanding network of mountain bike trails; some of the most consistent thermals of super paragliding; raging white water rapids for rafting and hydro speeding; canoying and abseiling down the spectacular valley gorges; golf at the Trent Jones Sr designed 18 hole course in Chamonix, as well as many other top quality courses nearby; the sports centre has an indoor and outdoor 50m swimming pool and a large grassed sunbathing area, water slides, numerous tennis courts, gym, spa, Jacuzzis, the list goes on!

Came up a bit Short of perfect

The flat itself is well equipped and comfortable. It is just on the edge of town, out of earshot of the bustle, but close enough to walk to the heart of town or the Aiguille du Midi lift in just two minutes. It is close to the rail tracks, but the train does not go at night, so it was quiet for sleeping. The catch to this property is that it is on the top level of a building with slanted rooflines, meaning anyone over 5 foot 7 inches (175cm) cannot stand up straight in about half of the flat. The dining room and kitchen have full height ceilings, but both bedrooms and the loft have ceilings starting at 5 1/2 feet, (165cm) or less and slanting down from there. We had a good laugh about it and spent our three days there making lots of troll and hunchback jokes, but bumping our heads on the ceiling did get tiring after a while. Overall it was a nice flat and the people we dealt with were very pleasant and accommodating, the beds were comfortable and the owner did a wonderful job putting together a booklet of useful information for our stay. I would enthusiastically recommend this property to someone looking for a no frills, convenient place to stay in Chamonix, if you're under 5 1/2 feet tall.
