little gem

Review Submitted: September 25, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
I have stayed in the cottage twice with my parents (from France) and daughter. It is a lovely little cottage - tiny but incredibly well organised (it makes you consider at all that badly used space at home!)- and the area is fantastic. We never tire of it. The cottage is particularly well situated because there is a lot to do around it with or without a car: there’s the harbour below .. and its coffee shop, the beach, the lovely walk to whitepark bay, to the rope bridge, it’s handy to the shop and pubs in the village, etc.
There is a lovely track along the cliffs that loops around. The cottage is just on the way and it makes for a very nice evening stroll.
Unfortunately this year every walk was punctuated by a shower.. which gave us magnificent rainbows (to my daughter's delight) but didn't allow us to live outside as much as we had last September (when we had been able to eat outside most days -lovely view of the white church, sea, sheep island and Rathlin from the table outside on the front lawn).
So lovely place... I would highly recommend it as long as nobody books when I want to go : )

We absolutely loved our stay at the Northern Star Cottage. It was so cosy and well-equipped. The cottage was clean, warm and everything you need was in stock. It was nice to use the stove for the cold evenings.
The environment was lovely. There was a lot to see around the cottage. It's a nice place to relax and enjoy the nature.

We would really recommend you this cottage if you want to relax and discover Northern Ireland.

Little Star

Review Submitted: November 20, 2011 Date of Stay: November 2011
We absolutely loved our stay in the Northern Star Cottage, It was great, we would not change a thing about it.
It is a very cosy and warm cottage, very well laid out, and very well maintained. The perfect Irish cottage with a modern touch. It is a great place to go and just unwind, the walks and beaches along the North coast are fantastic, and the scenery is breathtaking, we are really looking forward to staying there again. We would highly recommend the Northern Star Cottage to our friends and relatives.

Lovely, cosy cottage in gorgeous location

Review Submitted: October 1, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
The cottage was everything that I had imagined. Tiny but very cosy. Very well equipped with a really comfortable bed (we slept soundly every night, probably due to all the fresh air). The location is excellent, with super views, just a five minute walk to the local pub. The rope bridge bar was a home from home where we experienced great hospitality. All in all we had a memorable holiday using this dear little cottage as our base and would highly recommend it.

Northern Star Cottage

Review Submitted: September 12, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
Ballintoy and the Antrim coast are synonymous with my children's childhood holidays with their much missed dad and their Ulster grandparents who died last Winter. My daughter and I could re-create many of the walks we did then with no need to set off inland at the end of the day: Glenariff; from Ballintoy to White Park Bay and on to the little church at Port Bradden; especially the boat trip to Rathlin (3rd time lucky). The cottage was excellent in location, comfort and design. (new teapot needed)
Only one thing disappointed: the inaccurate info about the wine. There were 2 bottles of red there instead of the promised 6. I phoned Jayne on Sun. afternoon and was told that Clem would call me back, which he did not do. On leaving, I found out that the info about the wine had been reported the previous Sat and he had said he would sort the wine out on the Sun and also cut the grass. I found this cavalier attitude strange and not in keeping with other people's reviews. It is in contrast with the positive points I would prefer to focus on.
We ate in various places that were recommended. Bushmills Inn good as always but pricey, Village Inn lovely salad lunch, Flash in the Pan huge fish and chips. We also went to The Ice House in Portstewart which I would recommend. Useful to know that Morton's fresh catch shop opens from Thurs. We chose our fish before crossing to Rathlin. If you are late back (after 5 pm) they will leave your fish at the ferry office.

Owner's Response: Always delighted when our guests take the effort to write reviews it's great fun to read of your experiences. Somewhat stumped by the wine and grass comments in this review. Your welcome bottle of wine plus one more was there for your arrival and you have consummed same. As for the Irish grass cutting weather, we use an electric mower, we are not keen to use it in torrential rain. In any case Northern Star is an Irish labourers cottage and we let the grass grow an inch before we let the sheep onto it!
The reason Northern Star Cottage receives so many brilliant reviews is our attention to detail. It takes us 3 hours to turn the cottage around for new guests. In heavy rain we don't weed and cut the grass. Teapot under review, pity, it was a favouite.
Keep the reviews coming, thank you Clem & Jayne
