A perfect getaway in the Italian mountains

We drove high up the mountain roads to find Bella Buchere in the driving summer rain. We couldn't see much when we arrived. When we first entered our Villa on the Bella Buchere estate with our two young children, it was like stepping back 200 years. We were greeted very warmly by Sonja and Michael who look after the estate and who were very helpful in getting us there - they even rang us to find out where we were on the road! The Villa was magical - lovely old stone floors and huge original fireplaces; excellent quality, big wooden furniture and furnishings; two bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen. The children ran excitedly through the Villa (which slept 10 people and were were only 4!) to find their favourite bedroom. The bedrooms were all very big - especially the master bedroom which had a loft with two single beds for children. The bed was the most comfortable I had slept on anywhere on holiday - probably ever! The next morning, the sun was shining and we saw Bella Buchere in all its glory - a truly amazing view from every window. We had our own garden area and could see, on a clear day, the Italian Alps. The enormous swimming pool tucked into the rocks at the top of the estate's gardens was the next big surprise. It was very clean, blue and a perfect spot for the whole family. There was also a tennis court, which made my husband very happy - especially as he found another one of the guests who could play as good as he! We mixed well with the other guests and the children played with each other all week. The local restaurants are brilliant - take Sonja and Michael's advice and let them recommend where to go. The great advantage of Belle Buchere is its closeness to many places - some truly fantastic beaches and medieval towns only 1-2 hours drive away - well worth a day's visit. We even visited Monte Carlo for a day! The local vineyards are a necessary visit, and the local Prosecco is the best! Whether you just want to get away from it all with mountain views, cycling, walks, good local food and wine - this is the place for you. Or whether you want to take your children and give them a holiday they won't forget, this is also the place for you. If you want a large party for a special occasion - this place is perfect! Lastly, Sonja and Michael's welcome and friendship throughout the week made us feel very much welcome and at home. We will be returning - this time with more people to fill up all the bedrooms we didn't use this time!
