House in Pretty Market Town with lovely views across the River Alva

This rural house is on the south facing banks of the River Alva in the pretty market town of Coja which is set in the hills close to the Serra da Estrela. This is just the place to unwind and recharge in a peaceful and relaxing setting. There are many river beaches in the area and the local restaurants serve excellent food including traditional Portuguese dishes. The house has been well renovated and retains most of the traditional Portuguese character whilst being spacious and comfortable. There are 2 terraces, one with BBQ, with lovely views across the river. The lounge is spacious and light with beautiful views out to the mountains and equipped with furniture to seat 6 and a wood burning stove for the winter, there are electric radiators for the cooler months. The large kitchen, once the adega, retains the original beams and is well equipped for all your self-catering needs. The dining area has a large refectory table. There are 3 bedrooms, one en suite and a further bathroom.

Coja is situated in the spectacular countryside of Central Portugal. The property is in the old market town close to restaurants, shops and other amenities. The nearest river beach is approx. 200m where it is safe to swim and there are many more beaches in the area with canoes and pedaloes for hire too. The Serra da Estrela is approx. 45 mins drive on the N17 or just discovering the hillside villages will afford spectacular views. The nearest seaside town is approx 1hr drive at Figueira da Foz where there is a large sandy beach and some excellent sea food restaurants . The University City of Coimbra is approx. 45 mins drive and you can spend a pleasant day wandering around the narrow cobbled streets whilst taking in the sites. The ancient Roman town of Conimbriga is approx. 15 mins drive south of Coimbra and is well worth a visit. The rivers flow into lakes where you can spend the afternoon with a picnic and a swim or visit the palace of Bucaco set in a beautiful nature reserve.

Change over day is a Saturday but this can be flexible if bookings allow. The property is available from 4pm on day of arrival and is to be vacated by 10am on the day you leave.

Outdoor pursuits

The area is ideal for outdoor pursuits including walks, cycling and canoeing. Horse riding is available in Gois with a range of hacks, half day and picnic rides. An excellent 27 hole golf course is attached to one of Central Portugals best hotels 'Montebelo' and is available to the public for a fee, clubs can be hired there. There is paragliding from some of the nearby hilltops but this is not an organised event. A fishing licence can be easily obtained from the council offices for a small fee and the lakes provide some water sports. The slopes of the Serra da Estrela provide good skiing in the winter months and are only approx. 1 hrs drive away.
