Stunning villa with private pool set in lush tropical gardens just minutes from Boavista Championship Golf Course (20% discount for guests), Lagos and Luz. Entered through one of the most impressive driveways in the Algarve, our two bed/two bath spacious villa offers everything you need for a relaxing, sightseeing, golfing or beach holiday. Previous guests' comments [available on request] include feedback such as 'breathtaking', 'even better than the pictures', 'spotless', and 'a real gem'. Our villa combines traditional Portuguese architecture and finishings (eg traditional tiling, stone floors, fireplaces etc which are all so difficult to find nowadays!) with totally up to date modern living. All the fixtures are of high, German, quality including patio doors in the bedrooms and living room glazed with special glass to keep the villa cool in the hot months. This is our home and we have furnished and equipped our villa so it is our guests' home from home.

Quinta Melody is conveniently located just 2km from Lagos and 2km from Praia da Luz. Championship golf is just 800 m away (20% discount offered to guests) and there is a large supermarket within walking distance. Beaches are 2km away although there is a track that leads direct to the beach (15 minutes' walking) directly opposite our villa. Superb Portuguese restaurants are within five minutes' walk and numerous other restaurants etc are nearby. A full information pack based on my recommendations for eating out/what to do/see (and those I have learned to avoid!) is available on confirmation of booking. I am proud that Quinta Melody is one of the few villas in the area which has been awarded an official Tourism Licence providing guests with peace of mind in terms of quality and safety of the villa.

All the beds are the highest German quality and adjustable to suit those wishing to read/have back problems. Both bedrooms are centrally heated for the winter (included) and with ceiling fans for the summer. Both bedrooms open up onto a private terrace where in the spring/summer bougainvillea abounds providing a colorful backdrop to that early morning of coffee or tea! Wardrobe space is plentiful in both bedrooms making them ideal for longer stays where required.

Notes: Inside Quinta Melody you will find everything you need in the living room/bedrooms/kitchen etc to make this a real home from home as it is furnished and equipped as our home. There is extensive seating/relaxing/entertaining seating in the gardens/around the pool together with sun beds. Shade is available around the pool and there is a 'secret' garden where even in the hottest months, it is cool and a splendid place to sit, read, or reflect amongst the perfume of the honeysuckle or other plants and flowers, dependent upon the season. For those looking for the ultimate in relaxation and luxury, daily maid service, meals, chauffeur / taxi service, shopping etc services are available (payable locally). Central heating and wood burning fires make this an ideal winter as well as summer home.

Location : Quinta Melody is very conveniently located being just 2km from the historic town of Lagos and 2km from the glorious beaches of Praia da Luz. There is a supermarket within walking distance and a superb Portuguese restaurant also within walking distance. Nearest beaches are Porto do Mos and Praia da Luz, just a few minutes drive away. There is also a track opposite Quinta Melody down which you can walk to the beach (about 15 minutes) but this is not recommended for the infirm.

Mobility : The villa is all on one level and there are just a couple of steps to the front door. There are five steps from the dining room to the living room and from the living room to the pool (although this can be accessed via the ramp if need be). At the time of writing I am about to take my disabled mother in law to Quinta Melody and I will be seeking her feedback in terms of ease of accessibility. Therefore, if mobility is important to you, please do contact me.

Services : I have established Quinta Melody as a holiday home for guests. Everything I can possibly think you would need is there (and if it isn't, I would want to know in your feedback!). From November 2007, my sister will be looking after the property and will be able to offer you anything else you might need to make your holiday or stay there a wonderful one. For instance, if you would prefer not to hire a car, her and her husband can collect/return you to the airport and provide a taxi service whilst you are there. If you need someone to your shopping or laundry or any other domestic chores then again she would be happy to help you with this. Details of their hourly rates available on request.

Golf: Quinta Melody is exactly 800M from Boavista Championship Golf Course which is a superb golf course for players of all handicaps (indeed, the first time we played there we bought an apartment at the Resort).

Fabulous setting but.........

We spent a month there in January 2008; we have holidayed in the Lagos/Luz area for the last 10 years and have always had a super time but this was dreadful. We would never go back to this villa or use any other owed by the same people.

The villa was damp- the walls of the bedrooms were covered in black mould which meant that we had to have noisey dryers on day and night while it was sorted. This took 3/4 days with work on the roof and internal paint/fungicide spead out over a week.
The villa was described as kitted out to a high standard but was tired, dated and worn out. We were reliant on the caretakers to turn on the heating at an agreed time - 75% of the time this didn't happen. There was an open fire which thankfully my husband was able to light otherwise we would have frozen in the evenings. The laundry room is at the end of the garden and the villa has a dedicated washing machine and shared tumble dryer. Our 'dedicated' washing machine was constantly in use for the first 3 days by the villa caretakers;the shared tumble dryer would have washing lying in it for 24 hours.

We chose this villa because we have two small bichons and the vila was described as pet friendly. We are happy if the dogs are happy but unfortunately our dogs were poisoned. They ate rat poison which had been left within reach in the open garage in the "animal friendly garden where the dogs are free to roam". This meant a rush to the vets and almost daily visits to the vets for 10 days and constant supervision for the dogs until they were completely clear - no walks of the leads on the empty beaches. The constant worry about the dogs, trips to the vets, etc really spoilt our holiday- not to mention the additional costs of vet fees and medication.

For all this we paid full rent - never again!
Owner's Response: Unfortunately, I have to respond to this review in a more negative way than I would normally wish to respond to anyone. I have always been very lucky with the guests I have had in Melody and many return year after year, and some have become firm friends. if you visit my website you will find three years of highly positive reviews relating both to the villa and the service I offer.

However, the people who wrote this review were the only people that I have had a problem with, either in this villa or any other that I rent out. First, the guests who booked the villa and wrote the review booked for one small dog that was well behaved. Instead they brought two dogs that were anything other than well behaved. Second, I made it clear in the booking process and when they arrived that the dogs should not be let out of the grounds of Melody. This they ignored and let the dogs run unsupervised outside of it, hence why they found the rat poison in a neighboring garage (which was not part of Melody and therefore not on the property they were renting). On asking them to clear up after their dog's toilet activities, I was subjected to verbal abuse about all types of things they said was a problem with the villa (which ranged from damp (a small patch in the bathroom which was treated/repaired immediately - they were here during the worst winter rains for 50 years in the Algarve), to the fact that the soup bowls were wide rather than narrow (I immediately replaced with narrower ones from my own kitchen). Ignoring the manner in which they raised these issues, I offered to them alternative properties that would take their dogs as, despite the fact that I thought they were being unreasonable, I still wanted to them to be happy, They refused any offer of a relocation. Finally, they left the villa in the worst condition I have ever seen which involved not only an industrial clean internally, but my having to collect a month's worth of dog excrement (which as part of their rental agreement they were bound to collect and dispose of themselves).

As I said at the beginning, I am very proud of the feedback, repeat business and recommendations that all my other guests give me, and these people were really not in the same genre and I would certainly not have them back (and they are the only guests to date I would ever have that view on)
