The self catering apartment we offer to rent is in Dumenza with views of Lake Maggiore. It is close to Luino by Lake Maggiore, in the Italian lakes and mountains. It is the ideal holiday accommodation for exploring Lake Maggiore and the other lakes and mountains in northern Italy and the Italian speaking canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It is also close to Lake Lugano and Lake Como is not far away. Lake Garda is further east. The holiday accommodation is a self catering one bedroom apartment in Northern Italy which has been renovated in 2007, including a brand new kitchen. With its stunning views it is ideal for self catering holidays. It is great for self catering walking holidays and cycling holidays as the views from the mountains around Dumenza and Lake Maggiore are superb. It can be useful if you are looking for countryside retreats lakeside relaxation. It is great walking holidays and cycling holidays all year round. Milan is 1 1/2 hours away for a city trip.

Nearest Airport: Milan Malpensa airport (1 hour 20 minutes) at 30 Miles
Nearest Train: Luino at 3 Miles
Nearest Motorway: Lugano South (in Italian speaking Switzerland) at 7 Miles

The holiday accommodation is located Dumenza which is in the mountains above Lake Maggiore, about 3 miles from town of Luino, which is on the lake. It is also close to Lake Lugano as it is only 1 mile from the Swiss Border, the Italian speaking canton of Ticino. Lake Como is not far and Lake Garda is further east. There is bus service to Luino.. The average daily max in July is 27C or 81F. There are two restaurants (Ristorante Smeraldo & Osteria Vino Porcini) and a bar (Bar Sport) within walking distance of the self catering apartment. The supermarket is only a couple of minutes walk from the self catering apartment building. There is also a baker's (panificio) where you can buy bread milk cheese and most other essentials. There is also a pharmacy and a post office.

Things to do: As you are so close to Lake Maggiore there are plenty of things to do including walking, mountain biking, boat trips, shopping in Lugano. In the winter you can ski in the Swiss ski resort of San Bernadino, only an hour away by car. Dumenza is only a mile from the Swiss border and the Italian speaking Swiss town of Lugano is not far away. Lugano can be found on the shores of Lake Lugano. There are a couple of restaurants withing walking distance from the accommodation in Dumenza. There are plenty of bars & restaurants in Luino, by the lake. It is about 10 minute by car. There is also a bus service to Luino.

How to get there: Plane Dumenza is only 1 Hour 20 Mins from Milan Malpensa airport. Easy jet Easy jet have direct daily flights from Gatwick. Car If you would like to drive check the route planner . Please allow about 12 hour total driving time including stps. You will also need to including 1 overnight stop. Train Luino is less than 2 hours from Milano Centrale by train and then you can catch a bus to Dumenza (buses stop running at about 6pm).

Dumenza in the middle of Italians

One week at Dumenza at Italy - time for relaxing and time for our family only - that was the plan! Dumenza is very beautiful village closed to Lago Maggiore. We have visited a great location and we have felt the normal live of the Italians far from the tourisitic locations. During our stay at Dumenza we have visited Porto Valcravaglio with his old nice houses and beautiful places directly on the lake. At Laveno we have enjoyed the tasty Italian icecream with a beautiful view over the Lago Maggiore. Our most famous location was Santa Catherina. It is the most romantic place and a very impressive facility directly on the water. From St. Catharina we have started a fantastic trip to Stresa by boat. Stresa which is located on the other side of the lake, we had a original Italian pizza. From Maccagno we have started a walk to the lake Lage d´elio in a hight of 1.100 m. The walk was really hard to go but we had very good views over the northern part of the Lago Maggiore. We have seen different old villages and a great nature. A further walk through the local forest we have started directly from our flat at Dumenza. After a long walk through the forest we found a very beautiful place in hight of 1.200 m closed to the Monte Lema. We were able to see the hight mountains behind the Lago Maggiore with the white top of snow on it. Absolutly beautiful!
Last but not least Dumenza is fantastic location for people which like to get to know the Italian life, which are interested to visit the old mediteranian towns and to experience a fantastic nature with fantastic places.

Fantastic Family holiday in Dumenza

Our holiday in Dumenza was fantastic, the apartment was very clean and comfortable for the four of us, it was very homely. Dumenza is a peaceful, beautiful retreat, with the most stunning scenery that will stay with us forever. The locals were very friendly, we really enjoyed staying there. Dumenza has 2 lovely restaurants within walking distance of the apartment, and the food was fantastic.The streets are small with very few cars, and you can walk around and soak up all the atmosphere. Dumenza made a perfect base for our holiday, as Luino is only 3 miles away by road. We hired a car, which was advised to us by the owners, and from Luino there is a fantastic ferry service, which travels all around Lake Maggiore. We visited the Borromeon Islands, which are fantastic there are three in all, and the owners gave us loads of information of things to do, and they sent them to us by email so we had the information before we arrived, which I thought was great. They sent us maps, information on restaurants, shops, details on the local markets, so we felt we were very well looked after.
I would definately recommend this apartment to family and friends, and I hope to go back there again.
