Nonna Mae Villa is conveniently located in the small village of Giardinetto in the green and unspoilt Lima Valley, close to the lovely town of Bagni di Lucca and represent an ideal place to spend your holidays in the one of the most famous region of Italy, Tuscany. In addition, this location allows the guests to visit some of the most popular Tuscan sites since the distances are very reasonable. Simply furnished, the apartment provides a well-equipped open-plan kitchen/diner, living room, bathroom, a double bedroom and a twin bedroom. The garden area (apx 2500 m2) has its own furniture, barbeque and car parking.

Ski: The apartment is near Abetone winter ski resort which is well known all over Italy and virtually unknown in the UK. Abetone is 1400 metres above the sea level, near the border between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna; it is set in a splendid National forest. You can appreciate the place even in summer, with its numerous hill walks. The highest point is Monte Gomito at 1940m. Ski runs are available in four picturesque valleys: Luce, Sestaione, Lima and Scoltenna. There are numerous ski facilities: 1 cable car, 11 chair lifts (3 fast), 15 ski-lifts, 37 ski slopes, 5 ski schools, 2 cross-country slopes and 20 kilometres of ski slopes are covered by artificial snow-making ensuring skiing. This creates an extensive network of mixed-ability pistes above and below the tree-line. This resort gets very busy at the weekends because it is so close to Florence however during weekdays it can be very pleasant.

A Home from Home

We visited the Arnaldo and family,( I say visitited because we were made to feel part of the family) in August 2007. Wonderful hosts, very comfortable accommodation and a fantastic location. The peace and quiet of the garden/orchard was amazing ,especially in the early evening as the sun was setting behind the mountains(big hills but felt like mountains when we walked up to small village behind Giardinetto). If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing and friendly holiday look no further.
Arnaldo and Family, Thank you for a fantastic time and the Boar stew on our last night was something special.

A warm welcome

Very much a last minute booking for our family, from our first contact Arnoldo was incredibly helpful. We arrived in the evening on a national holiday when every shop was closed and Arnoldo took us to the local grocer who opened up especially so that we could get some provisions. The grocer is also the local baker and supplies all the nearby villages.

The property is exactly as described and served as a great base for exploring the villages and towns of Garfagnana, or for simply relaxing in the orchard. We enjoyed peaceful breakfasts in the cool clear morning air and long late dinners in dusky warm evenings. Our children made friends with Arnaldo's grand daughter and her friends.

The swimming pool is welcome, but for us, the fantastic wild swimming in the Lima river about 400m from the house was the best we'd ever experienced and certainly stopped us wanting to get to the coast. With safe shallow pools, deep diving pools, fish, frogs and shade to picnic in along with stunning mountain views, afternoons spent at the river were heavenly.

We truly did not want to leave and are especially grateful to Arnaldo and his family for their warmth and welcome.
