Ste Même is close to both St Jean d'Angely (12 minutes) and Saintes (20 minutes) where you will find superb food markets, shops, supermarkets and a wide selection of restaurants. Cognac, a beautiful old town, can be reached in less than 30 minutes - you've tasted the drink now go and sniff it straight from the barrel!
Ste Meme is also well placed for visiting La Rochelle with its large marina and bustling old town full of cafes and restaurants and Royan with its magnificent beach and Art Nouveau houses. Interesting family days out include - Futuroscope, a theme park just outside Poitiers, La Palmyre Zoo near Royan, the Valley of the Monkeys south of Poitiers and Paleosite an interactive theme park outside Saintes.
The surrounding countryside is ideal for cycling and there are numerous small museums and gardens to be visited. Long sandy beaches can be reached in less than an hour.
