The enchanting old fishing village of Stintino was founded in 1885, designed to accommodate the fishermen who had been ordered by the Government to leave the island of Asinara, to make way for a penal colony.
During the summer season there are many forms of entertainment for the tourists and the locals, and we strongly recommend the Latin Sail Regatta that takes place at the end of August, a boat race with wooden old fisherman boat. The museum of the Tonnara (capture of tuna technique) located on the new harbour is worth a visit. The beaches are the main attraction of Stintino, “La Pelosa Beach” is the most famous and with no doubt one of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia, facing the island of Asinara with breathtaking crystalline water and very fine white sand. it's difficult to find another place like it in Italy.
