Photos and Description of this Calvados holiday cottage Perfect location, close to sea, old harbour and restaurants. Peaceful courtyard.

This is a lovely 100 year old cottage in a calm area in the centre of medieval Honfleur. It has an enclosed courtyard which catches the afternoon and evening sun, so is perfect for dining outdoors or enjoying your aperitif. It has an excellently equipped kitchen, a living room and shower room on the ground floor; upstairs is a main double bedroom with washbasin, and another bedroom/living room but with full size proper single bed. There is a TV (French only), DVD player, i-pod dock, CD player, radio and video player. The cottage is in a tranquil lane with no traffic but you can unload outside and there is free parking around the corner. It is a few minutes walk from the bustling heart of Honfleur with its cobbled streets, pretty old harbour, Saturday market and many restaurants and cafes. From the bedroom window you can see the slate rooftops, the church of Saint Leonard and the surrounding hills. Once you have seen Honfleur you will never forget it!

Honfleur is a perfect location and there is so much to do. You can wander around the quaint cobbled streets, watch the world go by at the many cafes and restaurants along the famous old harbour (vieux bassin), stroll out to sea, marvel at the oldest wooden church in France, visit the composer of Gymnopedie, Erik Satie's, birth home, visit the museums and art galleries in the place where impressionism began and spot where they, and later Raoul Dufy, painted! Or you can swim, play tennis, play golf, cycle and walk in the surrounding forests. Further afield are the Bayeux tapestry, the Normandy landing beaches, or the cheese and cider routes through pretty towns and villages. The seafood is delicious and not to be missed; but also make sure you try Calvados, the local brandy made from apples. Honfleur has so much to offer and once seen you will always want to return. The narrow, tall, slate clad houses of the old harbour make it one of the most photographed and prettiest towns in France.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Calvados, France

Parking: The cottage is in a narrow road for use only by the people who live there, so there is no traffic. There are four spaces to park in this road, where some of the houses are set back. One of these spaces is in front of my cottage, but does not belong to me. You can park here if it is vacant, otherwise there is free parking around the corner in a car park or free on road parking. You can always load and unload in front of my cottage.

Laundry facilities: There is no washing machine in my cottage but there is a launderette a couple of minutes away.

Bed linen and towels: Please bring your own duvet covers and towels. However, bed linen and towels are available at extra cost.

Honfleur charm

Kas London
Review Submitted: January 22, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2007
My friend and I enjoyed the individual charm of this delightful cottage. It is well located and although in easy walking distance of Honfleur centre has a sense of quiet, residential "proper" France. The kitchen is very well equipped which is fantastic for those who love to plunder the local market and food shops and then retreat to cook and eat. The house is warm, clean and has has a friendly comfortable feel. We had everthing we needed (and more) We would certainly return and hope to do so next year and explore the area further.
Owner's Response: Thanks for your appreciation of my cottage. I love cooking and the Saturday market in Honfleur is a perfect place for discovering delicious food to buy. I hope you found the organic market on Wednesdays, too!

Honfleur cottage

We had a great week in the beautiful town of Honfleur. The cottage is small but very well equipped (almost too much stuff), would not want 3 adults there, two adults and 1 ten year old were fine..but mostly because weather was good and we made good use of courtyard, having bbq almost every night! lots of places to eat out with excellent quality restaurants.

Your cottage is as lovely as we remembered it and the small changes you have made have only enhanced it's charm. Thank you. Honfleur always offers so much, and your cottage makes an ideal base.

A holiday home in Honfleur.

A small but very well organised cottage in a lovely location a short walk from the harbour, bars and shops but removed from the crowds. We loved this cottage,.The kitchen is better equipped than my own and was a pleasure to use. The decor was stylish and full of character. I felt as though I was borrowing a friend's home rather than renting a holiday let. We had a lovely holiday and I have very fond memories of my time there, I would definitely go back.

So good we're going back!

We stayed here in 2007 in September and loved the place. It's exactly what it says in the description. It is a small cottage but the rooms are cosy rather than cramped and the kitchen is very well-equipped, better than we expected. If there's going to be three of you then you may wish to consider that the path to the main bedroom is via the small bedroom. As a couple, this was not a problem (we used the second bedroom for our luggage and clothes). We found the bed in the main bedroom perfectly comfortable and we were grateful for the fully-functioning central heating on the few nasty days we had. On the good weather days, sitting out in the quiet courtyard with a glass of wine, munching on rustic bread, Neufchatel cheese and rabbit pate, all from the amazing Deauville market, was just heaven. There are lots of personal touches in the house, from books and games (some left by previous tenants for the benefit of later ones) to strategically placed helpful little notes from the owner. This isn't an impersonal holiday chalet. Actually, it felt more like we were housesitting for a friend. Replies to queries (by email) to the owner were prompt and helpful, as was the map of where to find free parking (a godsend!). We found the locals very friendly and helpful and wonderfully tolerant of our execrable French. Local restaurants are plentiful and pretty good to excellent (L'Ecailleur in the Vieux Bassin got our top marks). There are some wonderful museums and art galleries right there in Honfleur and interesting places within easy drive. We're going back again this September. 'Nuff said.
