Fantstic apartment

We stayed here for a week from 28/7/08 to 4/8/08.
The photographs do not do it justice. It is very well maintained, the design is amazing and we found it cool and airy, even on the hottest of days. The whole apartment, especially the kitchen, is fully equipped with everything you should need, and the ultra chic bathroom, complete with jacuzzi bath & amazing view, is stunning.
The two terraces provide practically all-day sunshine. We spent most of our time on the sunset terrace. With a table, couch & two chairs, it is the perfect spot to relax in while soaking up the sun. The views from both terraces are spectacular.
As it is only about 10 minutes drive to the motorway, access to the rest of the island is easy. Secure parking is provided in the basement of the apartment.
The owner is the perfect host, providing a wealth of useful information about the apartment, the local restaurants and travel information. He provided a complimentary bottle of Madeira wine, a Madeira honey cake and a bottle of espumante, the local bubbly, to enjoy with a relaxing jacuzzi. He also provided a mobile 'phone to contact him to ask questions, book excursions etc.
Caniço de Baixa is a small resort, but we found more than enough restaurants to ensure that we ate in a different one each night, and we did not visit them all. The standard of food and service everywhere is very high, as is the friendliness of the Madeiran people.
There is, at present, no bank or ATM, and only 1 mini-mercado in the resort, which, as the owner warned us, was expensive. This was not a problem, however, as it only cost €0.95 for the short bus journey to Caniço where there are banks, large supermercados, and more excellent restaurants. The nearest bus stop is less than 50 yards from the apartment.
We had a wonderful, relaxing week in this lovely apartment and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a quiet and safe environment.
