Enjoy the charm of a bygone era, rent our romantic cottage home in the quaint winemakers' village of Erden on the Mosel for your next holiday. Built in 1661 this half-timbered house is the oldest house in the village and is set among several registered historic half-timbered houses. It has been updated and appointed with all the comforts of home. Features include: Two bedrooms, one with WC,all linens incl.; full-sized bathroom with shower, towels provided; down comforters and down pillows; small, functional kitchen; Gute Stube (Living/Dining Room) with Flat-Screen TV and Satellite feed (including English language programming); DVD and CD Player; small library, CD collection and family table games; two bicycles for guest use. Haus Margarete is available year-round. For the Easter week, Pentecost (Whitsuntide) weekend and the months of July through September, book early as demand is typically higher during those periods. For the foreseeable future Haus Margrete has been booked for the Vintner Wine and Street Festival the first week of every October. Don't want to shop for groceries or cook while on holiday? Breakfast rolls, butter, jam, coffee, fruit, yogurt etc. can be delivered to front door daily. Check with restaurant Zur Ratsschenke to put in orders from the local bakery. Zur Ratsschenke can also deliver lunch and dinner meals from their menu. Prices are quite reasonable.

Self-Catering & Alternatives
A small, but serviceable kitchen is available in Haus Margarete-Erden. It includes all the utensils and small appliances you will need for fixing coffee, tea, or making light meals. You can order fresh rolls, yogurt, milk, jam, etc. which are delivered to the door every morning during your stay. Ask Olaf or Ingrid of the restaurant Zur Ratsschenke to make up your order and fax it off to the bakers in the neighbouring village. Enjoy the morning as you sit in the wide sill of the kitchen window with a morning cup of coffee and watch life pass through the 'Engpass' (the Narrows) below. No need to pay until you check out. Don't feel like cooking or want to spend a romantic evening dining in? Ask Zur Ratsschenke for a list of dishes you can order from their menu for private in-home dining. Sit down to a fine meal on porcelain dinnerware and cloth napkins in the comfort of Haus Margarete's dining room. Patio table and chairs (and umbrella) available.
The Middle Mosel
Erden is in the heart of the highly acclaimed Middle Mosel which stretches from Leiwen to just a bit past Erden. The finest, most delicate Rieslings are produced in this fabled region. Bicycle from village to village to taste the wines at all the area wineries (check with the Tourist Information office) or just enjoy the scenery and the slow pace. Nearby Bernkastel-Kues is among the most popular spots along the Mosel with its half-timbered houses along winding streets, wine shops, wine museum and restaurants. Bernkastel is also a popular spot to start or end a Mosel boat excursion.

This was a very charming house, full of character. Situated near Bernkastel, it offers the opportunity to travel to a wide range of sites, and our week was simply not long enough.
The property itself was well presented, and as described on the website, although we did find the kitchen to be smaller than anticipated, and if four people were staying, the amount of crockery might be insuficient.
Ideally, the property would be more suited to two people.
We really enjoyed our week in the property, especially when the sun shone in the second half of the week.
Don't miss the walk across the river, starting at the Roman ruins. The views of Erden are wonderful!
Owner's response:
There should be sufficient dishes for four people in the kitchen and dining/living room at all times. There are a few dishes in the kitchen, as well as most of the cooking pots and serving pieces. However, the primary porcelain service is located in the dining room cabinet, including four soup bowls, four dinner plates, four cups and saucers, four salad plates, four desert/bread plates, a serving platter, cream and sugar, and a vegetable serving dish. Wine glasses, champagne flutes and pewter shots are also available in sufficient quantities. Water glasses and coffee mugs are kept in the kitchen. More wine and liquer glasses are kept in the wine cellar cabinet. If additional pieces are needed, please ask Olaf & Ingrid (managers) to get a few more from the maid's cabinet where the backup set is kept.
While the kitchen is admittedly small, it should be sufficient to cook for four persons. The kitchen does have a coffee maker, an espresso maker, hot water cooker, a two-burner stove top and a small refrigerator. Although we do not have an oven, there is a microwave oven and a tabletop grill is available upon request.
I stay in the house myself every summer and will try to correct any deficiencies in the house as quickly as possible and to the level my guests expect.
