Photos and Description of this Nottinghamshire holiday cottage Self catering cottage in small market town near to all amenities and Nottingham

PLEASE NOTE I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RESPOND TO ENQUIRIES 19 NOV - 8 DEC AS TRAVELLING My little cottage is 200 years old and would have once been the gardeners cottage, although sadly no garden but there is a sunny terrace in the front to sit out. It is therefore full of character but quite SMALL with low doors and oak beamed ceilings. It is one of the original '2 up, 2 downs' from around 1800 and in recent years was modernised and a small toilet/shower room added. It has been decorated and furnished in keeping with the period complete with some antique furniture so not really suitable for small children. You do actually sense the history in the ambiance. The kitchen is just big enough for 4 to eat round the table and the living room cosy, especially when the log fire is blazing away in the grate. Situated in a cul de sac literally just off the main centre and market square of Bingham, it is quiet but with easy access to Nottingham. Fine for 4 people (max )if not to tall!

Well Robin Hood country of course. Come and trace the history of Robin Hood - he robbed the rich to pay the poor (apparently!). The logs for the fireplace come from Nottingham Forest. There are many old villages and pubs all around the area .The evocative 11th century castle - erected by William the Conqueror and rebuilt by the Duke of Newcastle in the 18th century brings back the decades of history associated with Nottingham and surrounding lace market . Nottingham itself boasts the oldest inn in England. Modern Nottingham is thronging with nightlife and restaurants with some of the biggest national companies and Universities based there but there are also many outlying areas of natural beauty and protected bird life. The great city of Nottingham should not be missed and offers a litany of enthralling museums. Its modern name derives from an Anglo-Saxon chieftain called Snot - hence Snotingham!

Notes: Small market town nestling in the countryside but only 20 mins drive to Nottingham and less to Newark. The old town of Lincoln can be reached to the North and Leicester to the South. If you wish to stray further afield you could reach the famous cobbled town of York or walk round the stunning architecture of Cambridge. in Many pretty villages around in which to walk or cycle and maybe a pub lunch. There are trains to the seaside or maybe you would like the caves in Derbyshire. In Bingham itself the local pubs do good food by big open fireplaces or visit one of the many restaurants. The market is on Thursdays and the leisure centre is always a good all weather alternative to a bike ride. Although we do not have internet, the local library 5 minutes walk away will provide computers and internet FREE for an hour at a time with some ID, like a driving licence. You can book twice a day if you wsh

YOUNG CHILDREN: Children of a responsible age (over around 8 years) are welcome . The antique style of furnishing means low items like fire tongues, small pictures, decorative lights etc. could easily be damaged and at the same time be dangerous to a small child. Babies who are not yet mobile would of course be fine, although we do not have cot facilities, high chairs or any other baby bits and pieces.

MEDIUM TERM LETS: If you are in between houses or working for maybe just 2 or 3 months in the area, it may be that we can give you a slightly preferential rate for a 'medium term ' stay. I regret I cannot possibly match the monthly rates of a 6 month let but I am sure you dont not want the committment of a 6 month contract either. We could talk about it. These rates do not apply to Christmas/New Year.

INTERNET AND COMPUTERS: Although not available in the cottage, Computers with internet can be found free of charge just 5 minutes away in the local library on an hourly basis. Often you dont even need to book.

Ski: There is a fake Snow Dome in Nottingham where you can indeed ski.

stayed at rosehip cottage as a last minute booking - owner was very helpful in arranging this. Cottage is very nicely presented just 100m from the main market square where there are many pleasant pubs and restaurants as well as local supermarket chains to get supplies. Quiet location as it is on a street that is a dead end. Lacks a garden but does have a front terrace to sit out on. Bingham is a very nice village/small town, with excellent access to nottingham and all major routes. Caretaker was especially helpful and was contactable for any problems. Overall we would highly recommend this cottage to other guests.
Owner's Response: Well thanks a bunch for this review and I am so glad you had a great time. Thanks also for pointing out the close proximity of pubs, buses etc as I think these things are pretty high on the priority list of a village holiday stay.

Although not ideal for very young children with Jane's agreement and Angie's help this was a great place to have a place for extra family on those big occasions when more space is needed. The cottage is charming and very central
for Bingham and the surrounding Vale of Belvoir. It was spotless on arrival and enough stores to get started on arrival. I would not hesitate to recommend this property. Wendy
Owner's Response: Thanks for being my first reviewer Wendy. Yes, a little tricky with youngsters in a house full of antique knick knacks but I was an antiquaire before I moved to France.
