Beautifully restored Andalucian Farmouse set in the hills above the historic and picturesque coastal town of Almunecar, located on the coast between Malaga and Granada. Almuñecar is an 18 minute drive away from the house.The road to the house winds up through the valley with beautiful views. Your rental car should be 1.4 litres plus to cope with the hills. There are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, both with showers. There are 2 large terraces with plenty of room to take the sun...all day long... There is a fully equipped kitchen and dining area and a large living room. Also an outside BBQ which is the original bread oven. There is a 4.6 metre (15 feet) diameter plunge pool. 1.2 metres (4 feet) deep to escape from the heat when necessary. The walls of the house are 0.5 metres thick giving a coolness inside as the summer months are hot. There is an ample roof terrace with a cooking and eating area and a front terrace running the whole length of the house bordered by sweet jasmin

Nearest attraction is the historic and beautiful town of Almunecar: narrow streets, dinky shops, typical unspoiled Andalusian town. Visit the castle dominating the town and the Roman ruins and viaducts. Explore the beautiful beaches and restaurants and tapas bars. There is something for everyone here with the new Aquarium the latest place to visit. Also the local food market open every day for fresh produce and the weekly flea market, boot sale. One hours drive away you have beautiful Granada with the Alhambra Palace and Moorish architecture. 20min away the famous recently discovered caves at Nerja with the worlds biggest stalagmite -a must see. The whole coast is dripping with places to visit and is not spoilt with the over- development that is found south of Malaga. There are a large variety of restaurants at very reasonable prices, as well as the local Andalusian cuisine there are menus from all over Europe including a very good Indian restaurant in the town. Also live flamenco.

About the local area:: This is a rural type holiday as the setting is peaceful and in the Andalusian hills above Almunecar. The road up to the house is a 10 minute drive on tarmaced road winding its way slowly up into the hills with spectacular views...We do recommend that your hire car is at least 1.4 litres to cope with the hills.The village at the bottom of the hill is called Torre Cuevas and has a small well-stocked supermarket If you want a bigger ' shop ' there are 3 large supermarkets in Almuñecar itself. The town has retained its Spanish flavour unlike Nerja and other towns along the coast. This is why people come back time and again.you can spend the day sitting at various cafe / bars and restaurants watching the locals go about their business. The house itself has a unique atmosphere of peace and tranquility and evenings can be enjoyed just sitting outside on one of the 2 terraces, enjoying your evening meal and a glass of local wine and listening to the sound of the local bird life.

About the house itself;: The house was originally split into 2 parts as 2 families lived there. These people lived from the land and the fruit trees on the hillside. These trees are still there and we are slowly restoring the irrigation system that ' drip-feeds ' the trees. There are mangos, oranges, nisparas and avocados as well as grapes. We also have a small vegetable patch with tomatoes and onions. You are welcome to pick these fruits and vegetables to eat fresh with your meals. There are also 12 almond trees ( almendros ) which give a lot of nuts in season. The house inside has been lovingly restored to a good standard (see the photos) with the 3 original fireplaces still in place. The chimney in the salon is working and provides a fantastic heat in the winter months when the nights can be colder. The walls of the house are up to 0.5 metre thick and provide excellent insulation from the hot weather. There is a roof terrace with views down the valley with the Mediterranean in the distance.

There are fiestas almost every week and they are all very colorful and give a taste of the local culture which is unique to Andalucia. We stayed in this beautiful spanish Cortigo in July 2009 we found the house in immaculate condition with plenty of space. The surrounding area is so pretty and tranquil with views over the hillsides. It was rather hot (being July) but the pool was a great success and the outdoor eating was very enjoyable. I would reccommend this house to families who are looking for a peaceful place to stay and is fully equipped with all you would need. Almunecar itself is a very Spanish town with lots of bars and restaurants with a bus service allowing you to visit all major cities and towns. The owner was very pleasant and helpfull and was able to offer local knowledge.

We hope to be returning in the near future.

This house is beautiful restored and is situated in the lovely hillside behind Almunecar .With its two bathrooms and livingroom it is a very very spacieus and comfortable house to stay in.
On the topfloor terace is a very handy grill table
Its great to just sit and dine here or having breakfast with pancakes and enjoy the lovely view
The terace downstairs is very biq with a breadoven/BQ and a nice pool. Just to sit here and enjoy the surroundings is great.
The distance to the beaches is not to far (20 minutes)and a lovely drive and the choises of beaches are vary ;from nartural to tourist beaches
Also you can make many nice walks from the house or in the near environment
Almunecar is a really spanisch town not spoiled bij toerist
There is a very biq supermarket a tourist mercadillo on friday and every day a great vegetable fisch/meat market and very tapas /flamenco bars end restaurants.
There are many spanisch festivals to enjoy
The owners of the house are very helpfull
We are a dutch family of 5 and we have stayed here two times now(may and oktober) and we will certainly come back again

Its true that Almuñecar and the Costa Tropical is a great place to spend a holiday.It is still unspoilt Andalucia with all the fiestas and culture of this Spanish region.

Also the house is in a great location and carefully restored as a true Andalucian country house.

Wir haben hier 1 Woche Mitte September zu viert in diesem Haus verbracht. Es ist schön und individuell restauriert. In der Küche kann man bequem kochen. Auf der Terrasse ein Panoramablick, auch zum Meer. Wir sind sehr gerne abends noch in den Pool gegangen, herrliche Erfrischung unter Sternenhimmel. Die kurze Anfahrt zum Meer ist ein weiteres Plus. Wir haben uns hier ganz ungestört (abgesehen von einigen Wespen beim Essen auf der Terrasse, an die wir uns gewöhnt hatten) und sehr wohl gefühlt.
Der Vermieter ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit
