Mas del Sol is situated in a superb location accessed via a private road on the edge of the pretty village of Sorede, in the foothills of the Albere Mountains. Within easy walking distance to all the village amenities including shops and excellent restaurants, and yet only 15 minutes from the beach. The property recently refurbished has a modern and airy feel. It is equipped to a very high standard and consists of 5 bedrooms - 3 double, 2 twin rooms, 3 bathrooms, fully fitted kitchen, large lounge/dining room seating 11. Separate sitting room with L - shaped seating area, which can by arrangement, be converted into a double sofa bed. Wide screen TV various English channels, DVD, CD, Hi-fi, PlayStation. The villa is south facing and set on a large plot of 3000 square meters, with fantastic views. Attractive mature garden, three terraces offering both sunny and shaded areas. There is a covered terrace which houses the “teenage area” having easy chairs, bar and pool table.

Sorede is a picturesque village located in the beautiful Pyrenees area, just fifteen minutes from the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea, at the feet of the Alberes Mountains. It is 40 minutes drive from the local airport of Perpignan and 1 hour from Gerona, just over the Spanish border. The area is ideal for many sporting activities including cycling, walking, water sports and golf, skiing in season is just 90 minutes away. Sorede offers you a peaceful relaxed holiday or the opportunity to explore many leisure activities or more adventurous sports. Stroll through the vineyards or climb up the rocky paths, where you can enjoy stunning sea or mountain views. The department of the Pyrenees-Orientales, formerly part of Catalonia enjoys sunshine and good weather for most of the year. Languedoc-Roussillon is famous for its wines many of which can be found close by.

Notes: The kitchen is fully equipped with electric hob, oven, grill, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, coffee maker. French doors lead from the kitchen to the outside dining area. In the utility room there is a fridge/freezer, washing machine, dryer, vacuum cleaner, iron, ironing board, etc. Double French doors from the lounge lead to a private 9 x 4m. swimming pool with semi circle steps. There is a solar shower and the pool is fitted with a security cover. There is a dining terrace for 11 people with gas and charcoal BBQ's. Garden furniture includes 8 sun loungers, wooden patio furniture, reclining chairs and a patio heater for autumn and winter evenings. The property is completely enclosed with automatic gates and parking for a number of cars. SOREDE: During the summer months you can find evening entertainment in the village square - music, dancing, folklores and the famous local dance - Sardanas. The twice-weekly market sells fresh produce and is a great place to have coffee and people watch. There is a rugby bar in the Market square and a number of good restaurants in the village. In the village you can visit the Musee de L'olivette; the horsewhip making workshop where the famous whip 'Perpignan', is made or visit an interesting turtle park in the Vallee Heureuse.

We stayed at Mas del Sol in June 2009. Our party consisted of two families each with two children under the age of 3. We found the property well kept and modern, the garden was large which gave us lots of room to roam safely. The surrounding areas are beautiful, with lots of options of day trips, to the beach, mountains, french villages. Gill who looks after the property was very helpful. We would definitely return another year.

Mas del Sol is a beautiful, spacious, light and airy villa in a wonderful location. My husband and I were especially delighted with the views from the property which are simply stunning. To the South are the Alberes and to the West Mt Canigou - the snow covered peak, sacred to the local Catalans. It was a joy to wake to see such beauty each morning. The villa certainly lives up to its name with lots of sun to be enjoyed all day, either on the sheltered covered terrace or elsewhere in the pool area or garden - with plenty of good seating and loungers provided.

The centre of Sorede is just a 10 minute walk away and there are plenty of facilities such as boulangeries, pharmacy, bars etc. Laroque, which we thought had the better boulanger is also very close - less than 5 mins drive via the 'back lane'. There we can also recommend Claude's wine bar and Cafe des Artistes.

The area is perfect for a sporting holiday - hiking trails are numerous in the Alberes, with most routes starting from Laroque, but with the Massane and the coast also providing many other good opportunities. Sorede and all the local villages have tennis courts. Golf is available and cycling very popular. We jogged straight from the property on beautiful back roads with mimosa or blossoms to enjoy as well as the mountain views.

The property is very close to the coast, Collioure is probably the jewel - 15 mins, but Argeles -only 10 mins and Port Vendres - 20 mins are also well worth a visit. The fish market at Port Vendres is a must if you like fish and we would also recommend Le Tramontane restaurant there.

Customer service was excellent. Property manager Gill could not have been more helpful or friendly and this added to the enjoyment of our stay.

PERFECT HOLIDAY AT MAS DEL SOL

Two girlfriends and I spent 2 weeks at Mas del Sol in October this year. We have been learning French in Australia and decided to organise our own French immersion. Sorede and Mas del Sol exceeded all our expectations. We had booked on the internet without knowing very much about the region but quickly decided upon arrival that we'd 'hit the jackpot'. The villa is very well equipped with everything one could want in a rental property and spotlessly clean. It was even warm enough in October to take a dip in the pool. Gill, the property manager, was very helpful and always on hand to offer useful advice - nothing was too much trouble. The village of Sorede is the quintessential French village and a leisurely 10 minute stroll from the villa. There are several restaurants in the village and 2 bars. There are markets on twice a week and a very helpful Tourist Information Office. The beautiful seaside village of Collioure is only a 15 minute drive away. I would definitely like to return and have no hesitation in recommending Mas del Sol.
