Photos and Description of this Canar holiday house Newly-built house with two terraces and jacuzzi in a charming unspoiled village.

El Tinao is a brand new townhouse in the heart of the unspoiled village of Canar. The house is unique in the village, being the only property that retains a 'tinao' - a feature unique to Berber architecture which connects buildings on both sides of narrow village streets. Built in the traditional Alpujarran style, El Tinao is light and spacious, with high ceilings, chestnut beams and slate stone floors throughout. There are two terraces, one for outdoor dining and a BBQ, the other with sunloungers and a heated spa. Both, of course, have those wonderful soaring views over the village, high above Orgiva and across to the Sierra Lugar. On a clear day, you can see the Rif Mountains of Morocco. It's easy to lose track of time in Canar, but don't worry - you can also see the village clock tower from the terraces. It won't help you with the day of the week, but at least you'll know when to nip out to catch the bread van for croissants in the morning!

Canar is the first village of the High Alpujarra, overlooking the local market town of Orgiva. Just below the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, and on the famous GR7 walking route, Canar is only an hour from The Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens in Granada.

Additional facilities: El Tinao has a TV for playing DVD/CDs, and a selection of DVDs, books and games is provided. We also provide free use of mountain bikes. Canar has 3 bars serving tapas and traditional Alpujarran meals. There is a pharmacy and a well-stocked grocers which even opens on Sundays! Swimming is available in Orgiva for a small charge.

Further afield: Golf - there are 2 courses within 40 minutes of Canar; one on the coast in Salobrena, the other on the near side of Granada city. Skiiing - the World Championship resort of Pradollano in the Sierra Nevada is 1 hour 15 minutes from Canar, while paragliding, windsurfing and diving are available in Salobrena and Almunecar on the Costa Tropical. The historic cities of Sevilla and Cordoba are both within reach for day trips, each at approximately 3 hours' drive. Not forgetting, of course, The Alhambra Palace and Generalife gardens in Granada, and we will happily book advance tickets for guests.

Canar is a great base from which to explore La Alpujarra either on foot or by car. The famous GR7 walking route goes right through the village, with the famous spa town of Lanjaron a 2 hour walk to the west, and a glorious 200 foot waterfall (El Dique) marking the half way point to Soportujar in the east (an easy 1.5 hour walk). We provide copies of The Rough Guide to Andalucia, Jeremy Rabjohn's excellent 'Holiday Walks in The Alpujarra' and a detailed walking map which you're free to take with you whenever you're heading out.

4th stay in Canar

We have just returned from our 4th stay in Canar
.Previously we have stayed in La Estrella another of Robin's properties. El Tinao is perfect for 2 couples, having 2 en-suite bedrooms. It is full of local character and is excellently equiped and comfortably furnished .There are 2 roof terraces - 1 quite small with hot tub ,the other larger with sunbeds,BBQ and dining facilities.Good to catch sun or shade at different times of the day.
We enjoy Canar so much because it is a world away from the coast; a place to totally unwind , relax and experience local life.
We found everyone very friendly towards us.
There are 2 bars - Bar Pique serves good tapas and raciones. It was only open from Thurs -Sun but very lively.
Vertudes- village shop- has a good selection of most items. She is no more expensive than Orgiva and it certainly is an interesting experience, but does help if you know a little Spanish if you want to join in the conversation.!
There is good walking from the village and if you feel brave there are great tracks up into the mountains beyond Canar.It is about 40 mins drive to the Poqueira Gorge and villages of La Taha where there are some very scenic walks.
If you want to just relax the views from the sunbeds and hot tub on the roof terrace are superb
Robin is very helpful and easily contactable but not intrusive. He has several holiday properties in the area and seems to work very hard to make his business sucessful.
We have already introduced Canar to several friends who have equally enjoyed the experience .We look forward to returning again

Great find

Just returned from a relaxing week in El Tinao. The house was accurately described and very clean and tidy. Fantastic views from the terraces. The hot tub was a real treat after a days walking - even on the colder nights. The owner was very helpful and kept us cosy at night by discretely delivering a supply of logs for the fire.
Canar is a very typical Spanish village with very few tourists in sight - a real positive.

We had a wonderful Xmas holiday at El Tinao. The house is cosy and well heated with a wood burning stove (and radiators). It is a fantastic luxury having a jacuzzi on the roof, which we used every night after energetic days walking and sight-seeing. The village is picturesque, very quiet and friendly; the shop stocks more or less anything you need. You can walk in either direction along the GR7 directly from the house or drive a bit further for other beautiful walks in the mountains.
In short, we loved it and didn't miss the freezing British Xmas at all - so much nicer eating breakfast outside in the sunshine - we all came back feeling refreshed and healthy. Last thing - the owner lives nearby and is very helpful and friendly but not intrusive.

A PIECE OF THE REAL SPAIN.

We had a fantastic stay at El Tinao. The house was exactly as described on the web-site, it was very clean and well maintained. The village was so peaceful and the villagers really freindly,they had a well stocked shop in the village and the owner was very helpful. We came here to do a lot of walking and we were not disappointed, the views were fantastic especially on the GR7 path,a photographers paradise.We will have no hesitation in returning some day.
Granada is well worth a visit and is easy to get to. Lanjaron
is a must, not so sure about Orgiva though. Robin was most helpful in giving us lots of advice on the area.
