Alenya :
Alenya is a small village just inland from the Mediterranean Sea and Saint Cyprien Port, five minutes away from Elne and twenty minutes from Perpignan. In the village there is a baker, grocer, superette, small restaurant, chemist, doctor, dentist, hair-dresser, news-agent, post-office, Tourist Information Center, a church and of course a café! Local people are kind and helpful.
Surrounding Area :
Elne is a delightful historic market town only five minutes from Alenya where there are many small shops, five supermarkets, very good fishmongers, and greengrocers. Mondays, Wednesdays and especially Fridays are market days where one can buy locally grown produce. There are several banks and two petrol-stations. Elne is a medieval walled city with a delightful small 'old-town' area with winding streets, attractive houses, two restaurants, art galleries and a wonderful Cathedral ,Cloister and museum. From the ramparts there are amazing views of the surrounding countryside and the Pyrenees in the distance.
Beaches and Activities:
There are many lovely and varied beaches nearby Saint Cyprien , Argeles, Canet - these are all long sandy beaches within fifteen minutes from Alenya and where there is a huge choice of bars, reataurants and nightlife. Further south there are pebble beaches such as Collioure, Banyuls-sur-Mer. There are lots of creeks and coves where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterraean, some of these are mainly accessible by boat but others you can walk and scramble to. And of course there are the beaches in Spain with good restaurants and cafes on the waterfronts.
There is an aqua amusement center called Aqualand, a marina and generally all water-sport activities are well catered for: sailing, diving, surf-boarding, wake-boarding, water-sking etc.
There are several swimming pools and riding schools nearby. Also tennis courts in Alenya, Elne and Saint Cyprien. There is a sports center at Saint Cyprien where one can also play squash.
Golf:
If you look at the aerial photo you can see that the house is only a few hundred meters from the Saint Cyprien International Golf Course (as the crow flies - a bit longer by road!) This is a really lovely International 27 Hole Championship golf course with 18 holes bordering Canet Lake and Bird Sanctuary and a further 9 holes amongst beautiful trees and shrubs surrounding the Club House. One can hire golf clubs etc at the Club House and there is a good restaurant too. For further details you can contact them directly:
