Photos and Description of this Tobago holiday villa A rental villa and apartment with private pool and beach a short walk away

Perched on a hill in the centre of Parlatuvier, self-catering Tamarind House villa provides breathtaking, uninterrupted views of both the oldest protected rain forest in the Western hemisphere and one of the most attractive beaches along Tobago’s Caribbean coastline. Completed in April 2007 the rental villa with separate apartment is a thoughtfully designed and constructed log house. It is a perfect holiday retreat. From the verandas, pool, terrace and garden, guests can relax and watch the day go by - fishing boats leaving early and arriving with the catch mid afternoon, the daily migration of orange winged parrots, cocricos, egrets and corn birds to and from their favourite roosts, and much more besides. With the beach an easy stroll of 4 or 5 minutes away there is ample opportunity to swim and snorkel amongst coral reefs fringing the beach.

CUSTOMER REVIEW: Janine Turner from Norwich, UK visited in December 2007 My daughter and I stayed at Tamarind house for Christmas and new year and we had the most relaxing and interesting holiday ever. The house and location are very beautiful. The house is spacious and furnished and equipped to a very high standard. The views of the palm tree lined sandy bay and the rain forest art quite wonderful. The village is pretty and quaint and the people friendly and helpful. We hired a jeep for the whole two weeks so that we could explore the wonderful and exotic countryside, idyllic bays and waterfalls. The evenings were spent chilling out in the pool and cooking fish on the Bar B Q or sipping rum punches on the wonderful terrace gazing at the sun setting on the bay. Sharon, the housekeeper was friendly, helpful and kept everything looking lovely. I can highly recommend Tamarind house as the perfect place to have a truely chilled out holiday in an exotic location.

Other Activities: snorkeling, bird watching, rain forest tours within 15 mins. Diving, Mountain Biking, Wind Surfing, Surfing, Golf, Horse riding 20-30 mins

Honeymoon spent in paradise!

Ross & Mo Arbroath, Angus, Scotland
Review Submitted: September 22, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We stayed at Tamarind House for a week in Sept 09 for our honeymoon. Tobago has to one of the few gems left in the world that hasn't been taken over by the tourist hotel block/water park money machines. Tamarind House offers an excellent level of accomodation with absolutely stunning views of Parlatuvier Bay to the front and exotic rain forest scenery to the side and rear. The refreshing pool is a must on the hot days! There is an abundance of wildlife literally on the doorstep be it the beautiful parrots, humming birds or the gecko/lizards. For our honeymoon retreat we were after something special, away from the buzz and commotion that we have in every day life - we found the required peace and tranquility at Tamarind House & Tobago. The service we recieved from the owners was nothing short of exceptional, by far better than any 5 star treatment we have recieved before - taxi pick up at airport, food shopping prior to arrival, welcome meal, island info etc. as well as a great help and service offered pre, during & post booking. There are a few locals who are on hand at or near Tamarind House be it the house keeper, local tour guide, ice cream man etc. all on hand to offer advice on how to find what you're looking for or to advise the must see or do attractions - or to just leave you in peace!
For Tobago itself; there is the oppurtunity to dive and snorkel at the many deserted beaches, hike/trail, boat trips etc. at various points all over the island and with the island only being 26 miles by 6 miles wide, everything was easily reachable with a hire car. There are various restaurants in Paralatuvier and nearby towns or elsewhere on the island that offer lovely, varied local cuisine and experience (drum night on a Wednesday in Castara Bay was especially entertaining, as was the tranquility offered by a beatiful beach front view from the Blue Waters Inn near Speyside).
If you are after an escape and something outwith the normal tourist chain experience, Tamarind House and the island of Tobago has to be on your list.

A taste of paradise!

SJ and family Burnham, Bucks, England
Review Submitted: July 9, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Our family group of three were met at the airport by an amazing taxi driver called Anthony, who sang some excellent Calypso music to us during the journey to the appartment. What a fantastic welcome to this beautiful island!
The appartment had everything we needed for a perfect holiday. On one side of the appartment there is a lovely panoramic view of Parlatuvier beach, while on the other there are dramatic rainforest slopes with lots of Amazon parrots, which kept us entertained with their antics!
The birdlife in Tobago is fantastic; our particular favourites were the hummingbirds which visited the flowers by the door to the appartment and the cheeky bananaquits!
We would definitely recommend going on a guided tour of the rainforest, particularly along the Gilpin Trail. We found the details at Tamarind House for Fitzroy who was an outstanding guide and pointed out all kinds of wildlife we would definitely have missed without his expertise!
Our favourite local beaches were Bloody Bay (which we walked to) and Englishman's Bay (which we took the bus to). Englishman's Bay was voted one of the top ten beaches in the world! The snorkelling was good there, although it is best not go out after the fishermen have been trawling!
Everybody we met was very friendly and helpful and we were very glad that we stayed in Parlatuvier as we found it very natural and unspoilt.
The appartment has a refreshing pool with a fantastic view of the rainforest.
Overall, we think Tamarind House is definitely somewhere to get relax, unwind and get away from it all.
We recieved excellent customer service before, during and after our stay and were greeted warmly on arrival at both the airport and the appartment. Thanks for sharing your beautiful holiday home with us! We would love to return one day!

january stay

fromlondon london
Review Submitted: January 30, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
We stayed for 2 weeks in Jan 09. The house was really lovely and probably better than the pictures would lead you to believe. It had the best views of anywhere we've stayed and it was very easy to spend hours on the veranda, with the view, birds, bats and lizards etc. The quality of furniture/appliances was good and there were even english electrical socket points.Access to the village and the beach was an easy 5-10 min walk (after the very steep drive). The house keeper lives in a house just below the property (not overlooked) and was friendly and helpful. You can pre-order food to be delivered although in retrospect we wished we'd ordered more as the local shops were really quite limited and we found you had to go to Scarborough or crown point (both about an hour away) for any choice. You can buy Kingfish in the p.m from the beach but you have to go and ask rather than anybody trying to sell it to you!
This is a very non touristy village (the most tourists we ever saw on the beach at 1 time was 6 but mostly we were sharing it with fisherman, dogs and chickens). There are a couple of bars in the village but they were more back rooms and we were more likely to sit on the sea wall to drink a beer. The sea was fine for swimming in and was probably averagely wavy for tobago. If you want to explore the island you need a car for at least part of the time although given the very windy roads there is quite a lot of driving required. Its also quite difficult to walk anywhere - we thought before we went that we'd walk to the next beaches but there is no access apart from along the steep windy roads. You can however walk up the streams just opposite the house into the rain forest which was lovely.
We went with a 4yr old and a reasonably fit grandmother. If there are mobility problems you can easily drive up the drive and apart from that you'd only have to access 4 steps if you walk through the garden. There are a lot of steps and unfenced swimming pool so it might not be great for 2/3yr olds unless you are very vigilant or do some impromptu blocking of exits.
If you stay weekend of 10//11 jan you should be warned it's harvest festival which seems to be mainly celebrated with v. loud music - otherwise it was very peaceful.
This is a very memorable, beautiful property but you have to be sure you really want to be away from the tourist scene!

A Family Holiday at Tamarind House, Tobago

jetty bucks
Review Submitted: August 25, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Our children had a fab time (even the teenagers) in Tamarind House, we all particularly enjoyed the pool. We had the best of everything in a out of the way location. You have seclution, whilst at the back of Tamarind House you have a stunning Tropical rainforest and to the front you have a commanding view of Parlatuvier fishing harbour with so much to see and do, from watching the fishermen to snorkelling and jumping off the jetty. This holiday can be as active or as quiet as you like. Tamarind House was clean and well maintained with everything there you need, complete with a local lady who will help you with whatever query you may have, A great house in a spectacular location. If you don't want commercialistion then this is the place for you.
