Kalkan has long been considered the prettiest of the small coastal towns along Turkey's Lycian coast. Nestling in the foothills of the Taurus mountains with its maze of cobbled streets, white washed houses and flowered covered alleyways. Kalkan has the charm of a tranquil fishing village where the simple houses have been lovingly restored to create the sophisticated atmosphere of an up-market resort. The town is full of enchanting shops which stay open until late, a lively harbour, cafes and roof-top restaurants to excite the discerning diner, jazz bars and a very smart marina where beautiful 'gulets', the traditional wood-built fishing boats moor after day trips or amazing full week cruises. The only local pebble beach is man-made but there are many 'beach clubs' which are open to non-members. They offer sunbeds, swimming, watersports, restaurant and bar facilities. There are 2 sandy beaches (Patara 25 minutes & Kapatus Beach 10 minutes) in the immediate vicinity of Kalkan.
