Photos and Description of this Monticello holiday villa Character house in Corsica,10x5 private pool, close to beaches & all amenities

Le Moulin de Reginu is an old olive mill built in 1878, which before its restoration featured in the children's film 'Grasshopper Island' made by Frank Muir. Now tastefully converted into a charming country house, it provides an idyllic summer holiday rental in a tranquil setting amongst acres of olive trees and oaks. The rustic nine-hole golf course of Regino is walkable from the grounds through Le Moulin's olive groves, making it an inspired choice for keen golfers. The house brims with character with exposed stonework, original beams, floorboards and chestnut doors apparent throughout. The former integral barn has been converted to provide a spacious, well-equipped French-style kitchen with patio doors opening onto a stone terrace for al fresco dining. Alternatively, at the other side of the house, there is a built-in barbecue and a large table and chairs, perfect for enjoying the views over the beautiful Reginu Valley and the distant mountain villages of Belgodere & Speloncato.

Le Moulin de Reginu is situated in the touristic Balagne region of north west Corsica with its many miles of beautiful sandy beaches, turquoise seas, idyllic countryside of olive groves and vineyards and unspoilt hilltop villages. From its tranquil setting at the edge of the hamlet of Reginu the villa is also perfectly located to quickly access the local amenities. The beautiful seaside town of L'Ile Rousse is a mere 10 minute drive away. This delightful resort embraces tourism but remains an authentic Corsican town with its ancient covered market and lively plane-shaded main square. From L'Ile Rousse station you can take the little Trinichellu train to Calvi stopping as often as you like at the pretty beaches en route. Calvi itself is a cosmopolitan town with a 4 mile long golden bay and by car is a 35 minute drive from Le Moulin. Heading east, beach wise it is a 10 minute drive to Lozari and its array of watersports or slightly further to beautiful and unspoilt Ostriconi.

Further details for this holiday villa rental in Monticello, France

Food and drink: The mill is situated at the edge of the hamlet of Reginu which has its own small train station and a friendly restaurant/bar that opens seasonally and is only a 10 minute walk. There are several excellent auberges within a five to ten minute drive from Le Moulin. In nearby Monticello village there is the well known A Pastarellu restaurant as well as a well stocked village shop where you can get all the basics, including fresh bread. Only 10 minutes away is L'Ile Rousse where you will be spoilt for choice with a good selection of restaurants to cater for all tastes as well as a market, speciality shops and supermarkets. You are ideally situated for visiting the local villages, taking the Artisan Trail, or seeing where the excellent local wines are produced and perhaps sampling some. Clos Reginu vineyard is only a few minutes drive by car. The owners provide a good selection of books, travel guides and maps for you to use during your stay, and are happy to give advice if required.

Travel to Corsica: If flying, it is best to fly to either Bastia( BIA) or Calvi (CLY). Bastia airport is approximately a 70 minute drive from Le Moulin & Calvi approximately 35 minutes. Several charter flights are usually available direct from regional airports to both Bastia & Calvi on Sundays, normally between May and October. Easyjet now fly to Bastia between April and October and have had flights between Bristol and Bastia and Manchester and Bastia during 2009. Alternatively, low cost scheduled airlines fly to Nice and Marseille from where you can fly on to Bastia or Calvi via Air France (ccm) or take a ferry to L'Ile Rousse, Calvi or Bastia. Ferries operated by SNCM and Corsica Ferries can take less than 3 hours to get to Corsica from mainland France or Italy. A car is essential & it is advisable to book yours in advance, choosing one that isn't too big or too low to cope with some of the roads. Most of the major car hire companies now operate out of Bastia and Calvi airports & some ports.

Travel contact numbers: Please check the various travel websites for further travel information or if you contact us with a particular travel query we will be happy to try to assist. Below are some useful travel contact numbers: Corsica Ferries 0033(0)492004376 or UK agent 0870 410 6040. SNCM Ferries 0033(0)836679500 or UK agent 0870 499 1305. Easyjet details are available on their website Easyjet.com and they now fly to Bastia from several UK and French airports. In fact Easyjet now have regular flights between Paris CDG and Bastia ccm airlines UK number 0845 1084 5111. Holiday Options UK number 0870 013 0450. Hertz car hire UK number 0870 844 8844. Europcar UK number 0845 722 2525. Budget UK number 0800 181 181.

Golf: Le Moulin de Reginu is an inspired holiday choice for golfers since it is only a five minute drive or a short walk through its olive groves to Reginu Golf Club, the only golf club in the Balagne. This well maintained golf course, approved by the French Golf Federation, has nine holes and is in a truly stunning setting with views over the beautiful Reginu Valley. Red kites are very likely to be hovering overhead whilst you play. You can purchase daily passes which means the keen golfers amongst you could play a couple or more rounds a day and also take advantage of the rustic and convivial clubhouse where refreshments are available. You can hire clubs, carts etc from the clubhouse or you could always bring your own clubs with you. There is also a driving range at the club for you to perfect your swing. Apart from golf , if you like walking there are numerous well- marked paths easily accessible from Le Moulin taking you through the surrounding unspoilt countryside with almond groves and vineyards.

Other Activities: Bird watching. The Regino valley is also popular with ornithologists due to the numerous species of birds found here.

Holiday Perfection

Cariad Monmouthshire
Review Submitted: June 25, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
3 of us shared Le Moulin June 08:it was perfect.Never before have I floated in a beautiful pool opened my eyes to see Red Kites within touching distance!A lovely rural setting yet within easy reach of beautiful beaches, mountain villages and the delightful town of L'Ile Rousse,a real town unlike Calvi where tourism ruled.
The house was wonderful.I chose the top floor.I loved the wooden ladder, sitting room and views from the many windows. The instant you arrive and meet Pat and Ged you can tell this is a muched loved home that they devote time and care to maintaining and are proud to share with guests. The welcome hamper was a thoughtful touch and that thoughtfulness permeated our whole stay. They never intruded but were always ready to lend a hand, very useful when our wing mirror fell off our hire car. The owners provided more than good customer service. They provided warmth, friendliness and a wealth of local knowledge.
The house is the real star.Spoiled for eating areas inside and out. What a pleasure having breakfast in the courtyard off the the kitchen then moving with the sun to dine on the other terrace overlooking the pool and grounds. Such peace and privacy. The excellent French style kitchen was a pleasure to cook in. Having planned to eat out as much as possible we did the reverse, bought local produce used herbs from the garden and actually enjoyed self catering! A first for me
.Everything was spotless. Lovely cotton sheets on the generous sized beds, soft bathroom towels, fantastic water pressure for the large bath and shower and enough hanging wardrobe space for a bevvy of super models.
A fantastic swimming pool.Early morning Pat was on pool duty checking everything was pristine.A huge plus was no disgusting chlorine, add to that 6 comfotable loungers,a chic effective solar shower, the beauty of the setting and complete privacy, what more could anyone want.
Very highly recommended to anyone wanting a special house in a very beautiful part of the world.

Perfect gettaway in Corsica

espadon Devon
Review Submitted: September 18, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We are an active couple in our 40s who like traditional accommodation with mod cons and we found just that combination at Le Moulin. The property is in a secluded location with lovely rooms and furniture and 2 outside terraces with lovely views (nearly always enhanced by a circling kite or 2!). The pool is pristine and a very good size.
Although the property is tucked away and a car is essential, it is only 10 minutes to lovely Ille Rousse or to the nearest beach and 45 minutes to beautiful Calvi. There is a daily market at Ille Rousse (get there early for fish) and really good restaurants there. We loved Il Liubeccio and the espadon aux 5 parfums! The lovely thing was that we could recreate the dish back at the property with the home grown herbs in the garden thrown onto the barbeque!
The owners, Pat and Ged are charming and extremely welcoming and helpful though stay right out of the way in their little bergerie with 3 friendly dogs.
This place is perfect for the adventurous, lazy and or family/group of friends. The only potential difficulty is the steep ladder-type staircase to the top floor but that is no worry for the fit and, anyway there are three perfectly good bedrooms on the first floor.
We could not fault the whole experience and would recommend it to anyone save the elderly/infirm.

Country Idyll in NW Corsica

Swimfan United States
Review Submitted: June 9, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We were a family of 4 from urban East Coast US with 2 adult daughters. The property met or exceeded all our expectations. It was very clean and well equipped. It was exceedingly tranquil with extraordinary bird life 24/7. It had close car access to several good beaches that changed considerably day to day due to weather. It also had very good access to Ile Rousse that was the main source of supplies. In our two weeks, we hiked considerably including the Cap Corse (extraordinary) and the interior. We sampled local restaurants but mainly concentrated on cooking what the markets gave us (special olive oil, excellent cheeses, poultry, rabbit and fish) and drinking the abundant local wine. We played golf at the adjacent course (a special experience with tight fairways, small greens and abundant hazards). Pool was salt water (a good thing) and used a lot by the lap swimmers as a prelude to a big meal. We drove 1400 km in our two weeks, which given the tight twisty roads understates what that distance means. We didn't try the railway which was very near and charming but its timetable didn't suit ours. The owners were exceptionally helpful while at the same time maintaining discreet distance. All of the house utilities and appliances worked completely to our standards (ample hot water, very effective stove top and range for cooking, good charcoal barbeque etc.). Third floor bedroom charmed our daughters but access is by a staircase wanting to be a ladder and thus best used by people old enough and nimble enough to negotiate that safely (no problem for us). If you would like a Provencal like country experience without the crowds or associated amenities (high end restaurants), this property delivers in every respect.

We had a wonderful holiday. Thank you for making it such a great place to stay. Despite the spectacular scenery, beautiful house and great beaches; it was making friends with Chip that was the high-light for the children!
