Every year in February, the Lemon Festival takes place in the town. There are huge temporary statues built and covered with citrus fruit (lemons and oranges), and every year the festival follows a given theme. (month in which lemons are celebrated) let tropical plants and citrus cultivation grow.
What to see in Menton: Eglise St-Michel: a splendid exemple of Baroque architecture made with pink and yellow stones; square floored with Grimaldi coat of arms mosaic;Hotel The Ville located in the heart of the city centre was decorated by Jean Cocteau in 1957. More Jean Cocteau’s works are exhibited at Musée Cocteau into a XVII century fort.
Language mentonasque One generally regards the mentonasque (name of the local speech) as a speech of occitan Provence niçois, making the transition towards ligure. It is closer to the occitan niçois, spoken with Nice, that ligure, spoken in the valley about Roya and with Vintimille.
