On arrival.:
You will be greeted at the port by Sue the housekeeper and taken up to Cyprus Villa. If you have heavy bags it can be arranged before hand to have a donkey waiting for you to take your bags up for you.
Sue speaks English and has a shop in the port and so is available to deal with any concerns or problems if they arise.
What else?:
The port of Hydra is a short walk from the Cyprus Villa. If you fancy a day of exploring you can, from the port of Hydra take the coast road to the next bay that offers water sports and has a taverna or you can jump into a water taxi that will whisk you there in seconds. If you wish to explore further there a ferries and hydrofoils daily to the next island of Spetsus in one direction and Poros (where there is a Spa in Galatas, opposite.) in the other, both of which are ideal for a day out.
Exploring Hydra you will find that the tavernas are good and the cafe bars in the harbour are popular. There is a generous supply of interesting shops, some of which are very chic.
If you wish to explore out of the center you can climb up to two monasteries, one of which has been inhabited by one person for the last ten years who is rarely sighted. On the far side of Hydra are secluded bays for private swimming and goat tracks to follow.
Privacy.:
The people of Hydra have a sense of privacy and discretion. The building regulations state that no window can over look someone else's property and those that do because they are so old have been tightly shuttered closed.
This sense of privacy has made Hydra into a place that people come to take a relaxing holiday with assurance of discretion. Leonard Cohen, Joan Collins and Richard Branson are some of the well known people that have holiday homes here. Cyprus villa has this sense of privacy and assures you a holiday in which you can relax.
