If the Costa Tropical is one of the Spanish Mediterranean treasures, Castell de Ferro is unquestionably one of its most beautiful jewels. Castell de Ferro is overlooked by a cone shaped hill which looks similar to a volcano, upon which is situated an ancient castle of Roman origins, with its large square tower. Windsurf boards break up the blue of the sea with dashes of white foam. In the impressive bay, before the refreshing waters of the Mediterranean, and enjoying the warmth of the sun, daily problems dissolve away. The traditional village square is surrounded by excellent restaurants, bars, shops and banks. A local market is held on the village beach on Saturday mornings and there is a local bus service to Almeria, Granada and Malaga, and all the villages in between.
