Entirely surrounded by water, Sète, also known as the Venice of Languedoc, has the charm of the fishing towns. Poet Paul Valery’s souvenirs and singer Georges Brassens are revered. They were both born in Sète. It is an attractive city of which piers are very well patronized. You will be able to visit the Paul Valery Museum, the Espace Georges-Brassens, the multimedia library and the Moliere Theatre. Sète has also an International Museum of the modest arts and a casino. The marina is adjacent to the auction place where many restaurants will introduce you to the gastronomy of Sète (“Tielles”, stuffed squid, “Macaronade”, sepia ala plancha…). The Sea Theatre, old fort overlooking the Mediterranean, welcomes many music festivals during all summer. The Saint Louis celebration at the end of August is an opportunity to see the famous finale of the jousting with music and bodega around the Royal “Cadre”. The Lido beach is 12 km. You will be able to enjoy the pleasures of the holidays.

| Notes: | Close to the villa you will be able to rent motorboats with or without license to navigate into the Sète Canals and appreciate the architecture of the town. You will then see the huge tuna boats parked in the middle of the town! If you continue your tour in the direction of the Pointe Courte area, you will pass on the Thau Pond. From there, you can go to the oyster parks of Bouzigue, stop to taste some of the oysters with the Picpoul white wine and then go to the Cap D’Agde. Back to Sète by the sea, along the beaches of Rochelongue or if you have time, continue your tour in a small part of the canal of the Midi with its locks, its canal boats and its plane trees! Magnificent holidays in prospect. Don’t hesitate to ask me about the cultural and touristy visits of the area! |
Boat and Jet Ski rentals
Close to the villa you will be able to rent Jet Skis and motorboats with or without a license. You will also be able to pass the French boat license in three days! The visit by boat of the canals of Sète is a must. You will have a very picturesque and different view of the city. Sète is the first French fishing harbour for the fishing of the tuna. You will find huge tuna boats in the heart of the city with their fishing net visible on the pier. The Pointe Courte area is very picturesque. It is a fishing area on the verge the Thau pond, very animated during summer evenings where you will be able to have a drink or to eat some delicious brochettes. In October, the sea bream fishing, when all fish are living the pond to go back to the sea, is time for an amazing show with hundreds of fishermen angling very close from one another to catch the most sea bream.
Audio guide tour of the city
The audio tour in English, German and Spanish is done in 1h30. Several routes are possible: 1- « Le petit Naples », upper area called this way because of the Amalfi Coast origin of the fishermen that live there. They have brought the whole South Italian ambiance. Overlooking the harbour, it is an artist haunt with intimist ateliers. You will also find many jousters and areas where they meet. 2- Walks on the piers and discover down town Sète: The whole authenticity of the Royal Canal where the draggers are back from the sea, and of the heart of the city with its traditional boutiques such as the “Halles” where the locals choose their fresh products or seafood every morning. But you can also visit the Mont Saint Clair, the white stone Forest at the top of the city and many other things to discover with the audio guide tour.
The jousts
During the Saint Louis feast, benches are installed along of the piers of the Royal Canal in order to see the spectaculars combats. They are called the jousting. The winner is sure to be immortalized: since 1666, his name is engraved for posterity in a shield in the jousting room in the Paul Valéry Museum… More than a sport, the folklore or the tradition, the jousting reflect the soul of the locals! The boats are impelled by 10 rowers, most of them are strong fishermen, all commanded by an experienced captain. At the bow, an oboe and a drum play traditional battle songs from Languedoc. In the galleries, fanfares are making the ambiance, salute the winners and the spectaculars combats! And this magnificent show takes place in summer.
Other Activities Casino games, Movie Theater, Theater, Wave pool, Skate Park, Thalassotherapy, Music festivals during summer, Jousting, Golf in Agde
Skiing Information:
Sète is an old fishing town that has a little mountain in its centre the Mont St Clair culminating at 175 m. Is it enough to have a ski resort? No, don’t be scared. But in February, the Paul Valerie down-town street becomes the annex of Font Romeu, famous and nearby ski resort in the Pyreneans. During one week-end, Sète becomes crazy and trucks loaded with snow come from the Pyreneans and drop it off a street prepared by the fishermen! In order for the snow to stay on the street is first covered with ice used to preserve the fish! And you will see the children sliding down the Paul Valerie street skiing or surfing. They have to go up walking on the sidewalks to go down again. And everything ends by a real torch lit descent, on Sunday evening patiently waiting for the following year.
Golf Information:
The Golf du Cap d'Agde Imagined by the talented Ronald FREAM, it is an invitation to the challenge. In the heart of a magnificent Mediterranean site, the Golf du Cap d'Agde offers magnificent undulated greens, water obstacles and bunkers very well located. A putting and an approach green are at your disposal. You will also find lockers and material to rent. At the Club House there is a Pro Shop, a bar and a restaurant “La Pleiade” to go with friends after a nice game. Charm and conviviality characterize this location which offers a magnificent view on the course. The international 18 holes course of Montpellier Massane has been created by the Californian Architect Ronald Fream in 1988 to offer a unique golf experience. Its 360° driving range offers 120 places of which 12 are covered, and exercise areas for each type of shot: long on mat or grass, getting out of the bunker, putting green, pitching green…you can also improve your game or initiate yourself to the game on the compact course « L’écureuil » (9 holes par 27).
