WHY NOT TRY CANAL SAINT MARTIN The Canal Saint-Martin, imagined by Louis XIV, begun under Napoleon 1st, ended in 1825, stays one of the the most picturesque townscapes and, paradoxically, one the least known for Paris. The banks knew for a long time an intense activity. Several dozens barges transported sand and coal every day. Locks activated in the hand. Today, killed by the road transport, the canal does not see more than two or three customers a day. He almost died second time moreover, when, at the beginning of the 70s, t The president of time considered it of a very favorable eye to cover it. The mobilization of the local residents and the blatant idiocy of the project made that it did not obviously come true. As a result, the Parisians rediscovered the canal, its nine locks, its standing banks of trees, its small public gardens, the metal bridges to the Venetian or bends, the plans of water

A cosy, clean and comfortable apartment in Paris

A very cosy, clean and comfortable apartment. The rooms are bigger than shown on the pictures. The welcome was really good, (first a cup of coffee, after that a tour around the house) there's no stress. The metro is very nearby, five minutes walk. Claire can explain very good how to start in Paris (the subway, buses, tours). Restaurants, all kinds of shops and supermarkets nearby. The apartment-building is a tiny bit noisy at night; you can sometimes hear the neighbours, most of the time it is quiet. Everything for preparing a good meal and making nice coffee (nespresso), planning trips is available in the appartment.

Cosy apartment with everything you need

This apartment was perfect for a family of three - with everything you need in a small but very pleasant and spotlessly clean apartment. The apartment is in a nice building on a quiet street not far from the Gard du Nord, very convenient for the Eurostar. It is a few minutes walk from the Canal St Martin, which has lovely shops, bars and restaurants and is full of families on Sundays. Claire was an excellent host - she made sure we had everything we needed and was very welcoming. We would definitely stay again and recommend it to others.

A week in Paris

My two daughters and I had a fantastic week here (July/Aug) and were very warmly welcomed by Claire, the owner, who met us at the Gard du Nord and accompanied us to the appartment. The appartment had everything we needed and more! It was very well kept and had a cosy feel.

The location was perfect for us, in a fairly quiet street, very close to the lovely Canal, and the supermarket, banks, bakery, etc, but also within walking distance of some great places, in particular the Paris Plage along the Canal, not the Seine (there's one there, too), just beyond the Place de Stalingrad. There were lots of things to do there for kids and it was a great place to relax for me - cafe's, dancing, strolling along the promenade! We also enjoyed the Parc de la Villette (a bit too far to walk, but we did) and walking along the Canal in the other direction, towards the Place de la Republique - here there are some interesting shops, cafes etc.,

Finally, we have to mention the open top bus tours of the main sites in Paris - a great way to see Paris, without tiring yourself out. You can get on and off when you want and so choose the places you want to visit or just see.

Paris was very busy, as you would expect, and quite noisy with traffic - we found crossing roads even at crossing points a little daunting at first, but we did get used to it. Going back to the appartment in the evening after a long day out was definitely a retreat.

Not very large, but very cosy

This is the perfect place to stay in Paris. It isn't huge, but it is cosy, it has everything you need and the owner is so nice and helpful. Our first impression when we entered the 2 room flat was that it looks much better than in the pictures. The apartment was clean, everything was working inside and the fridge even had some food for our first breakfast. We stayed there 2 adults and 2 children (5 and 8) and we had enough space.
The flat is also not far from the centre (by metro), and it is in walking distance from the train station where Eurostar arrives.
I would definitely go there again and I already started to recommend this flat and its owner to our friends. It was a lovely holiday and we are very happy with our experience.

Claire und ihre Wohnung sind richtige Schätze. Sie ist eine unkomplizierte und liebenswerte Gastgeberin, die sich wirklich mit Freude und Einsatz um ihre Gäste kümmert. Die Wohnung hat unsere Erwartungen übertroffen; sie ist verkehrsmässig gut gelegen, sauber, heimelig und ruhig. Die Betten sind gut, die Qualität der Wäsche auch. Im unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft hat man eine gute Auswahl an Läden, Restaurants, usw. Kurz, es ist eine gute Adresse. Wir freuen uns auf das nächste Mal bei Claire.
