Set down a winding alley in a tiny hamlet in the most peaceful part of the island, Ghammar Farmhouse is the perfect place to unwind. With uninterrupted views over the valley to the sea the setting is idyllic. With a huge vaulted sitting room opening to downstairs terrace/ garden, large well equipped kitchen, spacious dining room (seats 12 comfortably) leading to poolside terrace, ping pong room (5th bedroom), delightful inner courtyard and large upstairs terrace, there is space for everyone to relax without feeling they are on-top of each other. This makes it ideal for families, extended family get-togethers or goups of adults. As our own holiday home it is well equipped with a full-size ping pong table, games and books, CD player, i-pod dock plus flippers, snorkels and other beach equipment available for guests to use. We are pleased to say that it does NOT offer satellite TV! A daily maid service (included in the price) ensures everyone has a relaxing holiday

Ghammar farmhouse is in the tiny hamlet of Ghammar, near the village of Ghasri – the most peaceful part of the island. Surrounded by wonderful country walks, including one to a tiny swimming inlet approx 1.5 miles away, the house is also within easy reach of shops (nearest 1/2 mile). Being a tiny and unspoilt island, it is only a short cycle-ride or drive to wonderful beaches with crystal clear blue waters, ancient archaeological sites, beautiful churches, great restaurants, amazing scuba diving sites, traditional fishing villages, stunning sea and cliff views and an abundance of flora and fauna.

  • Each bedroom still has its original floor - huge stone slabs in one and local hand-made tiles in the others. They are furnished mainly with antiques collected locally over the years. A mixture of old (collected from antique shops) and modern paintings and mounted photographs decorate the walls - many put up since the current photos on the site which are a little bare! I must take more this year!

Notes: Very well equipped and child-friendly. CD player and i-pod docking station. Cot, high chair, even a potty! Books, toys and games for all ages, ping pong, flippers, snorkels, pool toys, beach inflatables, etc. The kitchen has a Gozo marble worktop and enough matching crockery and glassware for parties, as well as house-guests. In addition to food and a bottle of wine on arrival, the cupboards are generally well stocked with basics such as salt, pepper, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, coffee and tea (including Earl Grey, PG and herbal!), loo paper, candles... etc. Wonderful daily maid service included in price turns your holiday from great to fantastic! Doris also offers washing, baby sitting, and advice on anything you care to ask.

The most wonderful holiday we have ever had. The weather was lovely, the beaches quiet and the island a rich combination of untouched, beautiful and interesting. The rocky landscape is littered with the most breath-taking churches. In Ta Pinu Sanctuary a lovely old priest reached into his pocket and handed each of the girls a 'gold' medallion - they were thrilled. That characterises the islanders - very warm and friendly and speak amazingly good English. The farmhouse is full of character and has a hundred hiding places for the children. It is not over-looked and very private. It has everything you could need for a truly relaxing holiday, including no TV (the children have never played more beautifully together). Doris the maid is sent from heaven. The standards she keeps in the farmhouse are what you would want for your own home - and she baby-sits! Lots of very nice restaurants to try, in particular a fantastic Sicilian called 'Il Panzier' where the service is second to none.

Splendid Holiday

We have stayed in Gozo once before and liked the island so much this is the first time we have returned to a place for our holiday. The farmhouse was perfect, just what we wanted - peace and quiet to unwind from the stress of the English rat race. Facilites were excellent and the farmhouse was equipped with everything we could want. Wonderful not to have a TV so there was no temptation to switch the news on to find out what was happening back in civilisation. The farmhouse has stunning views and the pool area is completely secluded so you're not overlooked. We were there in the first week of September and the weather was around 30 degrees every day. Beaches had things for everyone - some were good for snorkelling, some good for swimming and others just for sunbathing on the sand. Plenty of lovely fish restaurants, some right on the seafront, are easy to find. Doris was superb, very knowledgeable and helpful from finding where the mozzies hid in the day to recommending the local festivals. Should we need a guaranteed "get away from it" break in the future, we would certainly come back to Gozo and the farmhouse. The arrangements made with Polly worked perfectly, no problems. The photos on the website don't do the property justice - it is better than that.

Gozo is quiet, relaxed and a great place to have an outdoor holiday away from it all. Probably not so good if you like night clubs!

I could go on for ages with more superlatives, but hopefully you get the message - a great place.

Amazing holiday

We had an amazing holiday at Ghammar Farmhouse. It was perfect for us with our family which included 6 grandchildren aged under 6. The pool was deep which we enjoyed, and we purchased a paddling pool for the babies. There was space for us all, and it was such a quiet spot. Gozo was a wonderful place - well worth going back to...and we'll definitely try and stay at Ghammar Farmhouse again.

Truly Wonderful Family Holiday

We spent a really wonderful week at the farmhouse in October 2008 with our parents, children and niece. What a lovely place to spend a really relaxing week. No pressures of every-day life!
The farmhouse was gorgeous and we are finding it hard to beat for this year's family trip. Gozo had everything we could want. Even as a very "white" English lady, I found that I could go to the beach without being at all body conscious. Everyone we met was totally lovely and Doris was an absolute gem. Our 3 year old son keeps asking to go back to the house with no television. We enjoyed cooking, playing and talking as a family which made for a most truly wonderful holiday. Thank you.

Chilled Gozo

We were looking for a relaxing holiday with some sightseeing, good food, sun, slightly off the beaten track, quiet and did I mention relaxing.

We looked at dozens of properties on the holiday rentals website and decided on the Ghammar Farmhouse. The house ticked most of the boxes, looked inviting and easily accommodated 5 adults. After speaking to Polly, we knew that this was the property for us.

The photos on the website paint a lovely picture of what to expect, however they do not do the house justice. The house itself is fantastic - large, airy rooms, lots of space, well equipped and very, very comfortable. There was food and wine on arrival, along with a welcome note.

The property was in excellent condition, always clean (Doris the cleaner is a godsend). The description on the website is good, but does not fully explain how beautiful the house is in reality.

Polly provided all the information needed to explore Gozo and there are maps and books in the house to assist further. Polly will organize car, transfers, etc, if required - we took this option and this could not be faulted. Whether you want to eat at home or venture out, the food is fresh and fantastic.

Whether you want to explore the islands or relax by the pool (sunbathing by the pool or on the brilliant roof terrace), you could not ask for more. I would (and have) recommended the property to many, many people and will continue to do so. We look forward to returning.

The holiday was exactly what we wanted and we could not fault any part of the trip.

Definitely 10 out of 10.
