A truly peaceful and relaxing place to stay, La Casciotta is set in an elevated position overlooking a beautiful valley, surrounded by a mixture of woodland, vineyards and open countryside. The house is located at the end of a quiet rural track. Both house and garden have been furnished to offer a comfortable and relaxing environment. The surrounding area teems with bird and animal life. Enjoy a swim in the large private pool, as you watch golden eagles soar overhead or enjoy walking through quiet countryside and villages. Relax with a drink as the sun sets over the distant hills and appreciate why many of the greatest artists came from Italy! Enjoy fresh fruit such as figs, from the garden. Savour the excellent local cuisine (there is a good restaurant within easy walking distance) or enjoy alfresco dining on the terrace or under the loggia while you admire the stunning views.

La Casciotta nestles in a beautiful rural area. If you can tear yourself away and go further than Todi, it is also an ideal base for exploring the unspoilt historic towns and villages of Umbria. Todi, Orvieto, Perugia, Spoleto, Assisi and Lake Trasimeno are all within very easy travelling distance. A visit to Rome or Florence too is possible within a day. La Casciotta is also an ideal base for walkers, nature lovers or birdwatchers, with the 'Circuito da Passagio' passing near the house, allowing peaceful walks for many kilometres along ancient tracks through the local countryside and villages. Lago di Alviano, a major nature and bird reserve is around 30 minutes away. Ryanair now fly from Stansted or Manchester to Perugia. Perugia airport is only 40 minutes away from our house, making it even more easily accessible.

  • To make bookings please contact the owners, preferably by e-mail. A £350/euro 500 non refundable deposit is payable at the time of booking. Full balance (plus refundable damages deposit of £350 to be paid 6 weeks before arrival. Rental rates include electricity, water, a weekly clean and change of linen and towels.
  • The upper floor sleeps 4 people and we are happy to rent this out as a self contained unit at a reduced rate outside of the peak season to smaller parties, who will then enjoy the benefits of a larger property. Please contact us for further details and prices for this arrangement. The weather in Umbria is usually very pleasant in May/June and September, but without the intense heat which can often be a feature of the summer months. This often makes it a more pleasant and less crowded time for sightseeing. It is also ideal in these months for walking, cycling or riding. There are still many events happening locally.

Notes: The private swimming pool is 16mx5m and 1.2m deep. The private garden offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. There is a large, shaded loggia for outside dining. Garden furniture includes sun loungers. Shaded parking is available. There is an excellent local restaurant within walking distance and many others within a short drive. Shops, supermarkets and other amenities are available in Todi. Most villages have a small shop. The nature of the terrain surrounding the house makes it difficult for wheel chair use and those with mobility problems. It is more than suitable for fit and active older people.

Idyllic Isolation in Umbria

We were recommended to fly into Rome Ciampino Airport and from there we followed clear directions provided by the villa owner to La Casciotta.
If you are looking for a beautifully appointed away-from-it-all villa set in stunning Umbrian countryside, then La Casciotta is for you. The house is fairly old but has been renovated to a more than acceptable standard with well-appointed kitchen and modern bathroom fittings. The house is particularly suited to families with older children/teenagers or two families as the accommodation is set out in such a way that they can live and sleep quite independently if they want to. A modern LCD television, CD player and a drawer full of games and books help to entertain if required.
Outside there is extra seating on the balcony with small table, and on the ground level before going down the steps to the pool there is a large table and 8 chairs for alfresco dining.
The swimming pool is perfect for the more serious swimmer as you can actually swim a decent length (or 50). There is plenty of shade to one side in a covered area
where there is a barbecue and another large table and 8 chairs for long evenings enjoying the views...
The views...simply indescribably beautiful so you have to see them for yourself! This would be an artist's paradise or for anyone who just wants to sit and contemplate.
Everything has been thought of - inflatables for the pool, a decent washing machine, logs for the woodburner, an enormous map of Umbria etc. etc.
This is home for Wendy and Mark for part of the year and it shows. There are personal touches everywhere but it is not so personal that you feel you are intruding. Apparently, their ultimate ambition is to live there permanently - their gain and Holiday-Rentals' loss!
