Fucchi is a delightful family home lovingly restored from an old farmhouse and barn. It has four twin bed and 3 bath / shower rooms and a comfortable sitting room with open fireplace. A dining room with a table for 10 and adjoining kitchen lead out onto a large partly covered terrace with teak table making it ideal for al fresco meals. The barn is now a games room with table tennis, snooker and football table, board and other games plus a wood burning stove making it ideal for colder winter or spring days. This peaceful house is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside with historic cities and towns such as Lucca, Barga and Castelnuovo nearby and Carrara and the coast at Forte di Marme not far away. Local shops are in Gallicano, a 10 min drive, with a good butcher, baker, supermarket, bank & sport centre.

Stunning villa, stunning views

Review Submitted: July 31, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
We stayed at this beautifully restored old farmhouse for two weeks in June/July 2008. There were 6 adults, 3 children and one toddler- ample room to accomodate that number. The property was spotlessly clean, fully equipped with plenty bedding ( no need take towels ect). It is situated in an idyllic spot with breathtaking views over to the hilltop town of Barga, a very pretty and popular spot, some 10 minutes from the villa by car and offers a good choice of lively bars/cafes and playpark. Castelnuovo is the nearest main town, again well worth a visit with good shopping (we noticed particularly for shoes) and has a weekly outside market. It also has an excellent shaded playpark which came in very handy. But be warned like many places in the region tends to shut up over lunchtime.

For all daily neds, a well stocked supermarket open 7 days is also some 10/15 minutes door to door by car.

You have a real feeling of getting away from it all, staying at this villa, peaceful and secluded yet in good proximity to local amenities. It also has great outside space, a fantastic shaded terrace where we ate al fresco every evening and a good sized pool where the children would happily amuse themselves for most of the day. For the adults, a games room housed in an adjacent barn with snooker/pool/table tennis/tablefootball/card table all on tap which would also be a great hit with any teenagers.

In summary, a charming villa with a splendid location; if you are looking for a peaceful stay in a villa full of character, then this is the place for you.
Owner's Response: There is also a weekly market at Gallicano (Wednesday mornings) and a very friendly cafe with excellent gelati.

The villa is really designed for 8 but a mix of adults and very young children in excess of this number can be accomodated by agreement. There is a cot and highchair.

So perfect – just can’t wait to get back!

Set on a Tuscan hillside amid olive groves and grape vines you will find Fucci, a truly wonderful farmhouse with spectacular views.

We stayed at the beautiful Fucchi for a week in August 08. We took our 4 year old daughter and the grandparents - ample room as the farmhouse sleeps 8 comfortably. The views are breathtaking and this idyllic house certainly gave us the peace we were in search of.

Graham provides detailed directions to get you from Pisa airport to Fucci, so not to worry. Reaching our destination was half the excitement, and even though we arrived when it was pitch dark, uncertain of where we were, that first morning when we opened our shutters made us all a little speechless…even our 4 year old!

The farmhouse was well equipped to a very high standard. Graham and family have clearly taken time to ensure that all guests’ needs are met. It really is a “home from home” and we didn’t want for anything at all. The terrace was perfect for alfresco dining and barbeques in early evening were just ideal.

The pool is a great size and overlooks the hills, and with sunshine all day long – was godsend for our daughter who wanted to spend most of her holiday in it (another bonus was the selection of inflatables available).

A supermarket and local towns (Lucca, Barga, Gallicano and La Barca) are easily reachable and great for exploring and eating out. There is plenty to do if you really want to do it! This place is really a ‘getaway from it all’ kind of holiday. It is truly nature at its best and has a completely peaceful atmosphere. .

Thanks for making it such an easy holiday – it will be just too hard to keep away.

Amita and Raj, London
Owner's Response: Delighted you had such a good time. The inflatable selection will vary enormously year on year as they tend to have a short life and depend on what we (and kind guests) have bought that year ! Our plans for next year include improvements to the BBQ and hopefully some additional teak loungers for the pool.
The house is genuinely a family home so you will find plenty of books, games and other family things around.

Really relaxing holiday

lapinbleu Edinburgh
Review Submitted: July 14, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
We stayed in the house with friends, who have children the same age ranging from 1-4 years old. The weather was beautiful and, despite our fears, CBeebies was never mentioned once - the children spent all day long outdoors, mainly in the pool, which was clean and we were pleased to discover an array of inflatible toys and a childrens' water slide which kept the children entertained for hours. The shade of the loggia was great respite during the heat of the day and we used the outdoor table and chairs all the time. The views from the house over the Serchio valley and the Apuane alps are really stunning. We were able to read some of the books in the well stocked library of novels but there were also plenty of books on the local area. There was a great games barn, but the games on offer, snooker, table tennis and tablefootball, appealed to the adults rather than the children in our party.

The house was clean and well-equipped and had a very homely feel to it. The bedroom windows had shutters, which kept the rooms cool when closed during the day.

There is lots to do in the surrounding area. There is a little village at the top of the hill, but its horse has long since bolted! Lucca is only about 45 mins away, but closer to home Barga is a beautiful little town with a Scottish connection only 10 mins away. We were amazed to see an al fresco ceilidh there one night! There is also Castelnuovo with all the facilities of a county town only 15 mins distant. There is also the lure of Apuane alps tantalising close, but inevitably we spent a lot of time at the municipal playparks (which are great) but I could see that there would be lots to explore.

Overall, it was a really peaceful and relaxing holiday and I would strongly recommend this house as a holiday destination. Graham was a pleasure to deal with throughout. I loved having no TV, internet, blackberry etc and spending all day with family and friends and, after the children had gone to bed, chatting and playing cards and sampling some of the lovely local viniculture! Multo grazia.

Views that take your breath away, a beautiful, stylish villa that has complete privacy and all you could ask for in homely, tasteful comforts. The wisteria covered terrace and the pool area is a perfect space and was where we spent most of our time. Eating meals at the large table on the terrace and sipping a cold beer whilst taking in the panoramic splendour, reminds you that life doesn't get much better than this! We had sunny weather everyday, really enjoyed Lucca and had great meals Osteria Baralla. Liked the buzz and architecture of Viareggio beach town and thought the Grotto Del Vinto caves well worth the James Bond drive through the mountains! The play park at Castelneuvo is a shady heaven. I would highly recommend this holiday - if you do nothing else but enjoy the special atmosphere of a very unique place.

A Beautiful villa

Review Submitted: June 2, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We stayed at Fucchi for a week with friends, the villa exceeded our expectations, the villa was very clean, very well equipped and all the bedding/towels etc, were comfortable and fresh. The location of the villa and the views are easily the best bit. You are far from anyone else and South facing you get the sunshine all day long. The pool was cleaned for our arrival and although a bit chilly was just what we needed during the hottest part of the day. The weather during our holiday was not the greatest but thankfully the beautiful cover outside is fully waterproof so you can still sit out and eat in the rain and admire the view. The best bit for me has to be just after nightfall, hundreds of fireflies come out around the villa and its better than any fireworks display. I just wish I could have had a go on the shiney red Ferrari tractor we could see in the window of the olive store!! Graham was very easy to deal with and there were no problems, we hope to return again!
