Great Holiday

Fantastic hosts, who went our of their way to help whenever we asked for it. Make sure you eat up at the house on at least one occasion!
A tranquil setting in an urban location just on the edge of Vila Real - when driving around the town you can see a green oasis which is the location of the house and grounds. The owners have refurbished original out-houses into each of the rental villas. Our kids enjoyed walking the 200 metres down through the garden to the swimming pool. The walkways to each individual villa was rustic in itself - need to carry suitcases through trails carved through granite rocks!
Make sure you visit Mateus House, swim in the local river, and ride on Fantasticable (details in the guest books). the kids really enjoyed the latter.
It was a very hot summer, peaking at around 35C in vila Real.
Our first visit to the region, and this turned out to be a good central location to tour both east and west along the Duoro Valle, as well as a day trip to Porto.
If there was one criticism, it would be that the main dual-carriageway A-route was very close to one side of the site, although the traffic calmed down in the evening and nightime. Can't do much about that though!
