A romantic villa in the centre of the city of Volterra, Casa Selci was once an old barn converted into a house the 1950’s by the family’s Grandfather. In spite of the restructuring Casa Selci has maintained the characteristics of the original barn building. From the lounge a marble staircase leads to a double and a twin bedroom, both with wooden beamed ceilings. The comfortable furniture once belonged to the Grandmother. The door from the lounge opens onto a large garden, totally enclosed – one side being part of the ancient walls of the city, from where an excellent view on the Tuscany countryside can be seen. In the garden, equipped with deckchairs, tables and chairs for lunch, tea or a barbecue, there is also a 8 metre diameter swimming pool. Behind the house there is a park in which the famous Volterra flag throwers practices.

The city still retains traces of its majestic past which gradually unfurls as you wander through the narrow streets and explore the Etruscan Museum, The Art Gallery and Museum of Sacred Art. And yet Volterra’s charm not only lies in its historical patrimony but in the undefiled surrounding countryside, a slow traditional way of life and its age-old tradition of alabaster carving. This elusive stronghold requires careful and patient attention for it takes time to absorb its timeless atmosphere, treasured secrets, unique ambience and culture. One of the most unspoilt areas in the region, close to other important art centres and the coast, this is an ideal choice for a holiday in Tuscany.

This is a beautifully set villa in the tuscan countryside. We could not believe the size of the gardens and the views from them were breathtaking. The location was excellent very private and only a short walk into Volterra which is such a lovely place to wander around. The villa was well equipped and very comfortable and the added bonus was having somewhere to park the car. This has been one of my favourite holidays and I will be back again. It is well worth visiting and the accomodation and setting were ideal. The owner was so helpful and supplied lots of information and this was an added extra as well.
